Disney is well-known for creating memorable movies that both bring out magic to the world and inspire the younger generations about being good and kind to others. But even movies appropriate for all ages tend to get a little dark at times. While the real world is chalk-full of sadness and loss, there are some scenes in movies that tend to pluck at heart strings more so than others.

Which might be the reason why so many adults tend to go crazy over these cartoons, because while they deal with real issues, they also create a magical world that we can escape to every once in a while, and potentially come out with a happier ending. With that being said, what are some of these moments in Disney that absolutely destroyed our feelings to be happy again?

6 Mother Dying – Bambi

Bambi released in 1942, yet the film still has fans hearts in its grasp. Even those that haven’t seen the movie can rattle off the most heartbreaking scene in this film and understand the pain without experiencing it.

Unlike the more current films, Bambi’s death was not visible on screen. Bambi and his mother are running away from danger, and as the scenes go by, there comes to one where Bambi is running alone, without his mother behind him, but fans can hear a gunshot. Fans watch as Bambi is confused and upset and is told that his mother can’t be with him anymore, leaving the world crushed at such a simple, yet devastating scene.

5 Bing Bong Sacrificed Himself – Inside Out

Inside Out was no stranger to tough feelings. The movie was about feelings and understanding them. And with a little girl going through a pretty hard time, there were a lot of moments when viewers could feel what she was feeling.

But when Bing Bong, one of Riley’s favorite toys, sacrifices himself to get Joy out of the dump, it created a whole new set of emotions that the fans didn't think was possible. The rocket couldn't hold both of them to escape, so Bing Bong decides he will stay, calling out to Joy with heart-wrenching last words, “Take her to the moon for me”, that made even the emotionally strong ones tear up.

4 Sulley Says Goodbye – Monsters Inc

A movie about making children’s worst nightmares come true slowly became one of the most heartbreaking endings that viewers could witness. Monster Inc does an amazing job at its character development that when the time comes, it’s just that much harder to let the story go.

Sulley is a very large monster that scares kids at night, and Boo is a sweet little girl who giggles at just about anything. When it’s time for those two to part, Boo is none the wiser. Sulley knows what’s about to happen, but Boo’s innocent actions of constantly climbing out of the bed to see Sulley makes everyone’s hearts break. Finally, when Sulley leaves, Boo climbs out of bed and towards the door that connects the worlds, leaving just an empty closet, thus shattering feelings everywhere.

3 Baymax Death – Big Hero 6

This children superhero movie packed a punch right in the feels, leaving viewers soaking their tissues as they watched this lovable giant sacrifice himself for Hiro and his team. Not only did Hiro suffer from the loss of an amazing big brother, which could have made the list, but now he must suffer the last remnants of his brother?

But even though Baymax did what he was created to do, help those around him, even after his sacrifice, the team was able to recreate Baymax using a chip, so the duo is safely back together.

2 The Opening – Up

While most terrible scenes happen a little ways into the movie, Up wasted no time to completely stomp on viewers hearts. The introduction was full of both laughter and tears as the story of Ellie and Carl played on the screen.

Their romance was unlike any others, but the realness of life came all too quickly, leaving viewers with a sense of longing of what-ifs and sadness. The introduction starts the movie off well by telling Carl’s story and granting him an explanation on why he’s such a grumpy old man.

1 Mufasa’s Death – The Lion King

Like Bambi, The Lion King is one of the more iconic Disney movies, and there is a scene that most all fans can picture perfectly when speaking about this film. Not only does The Lion King have well-known tracks like “No Worries” sang by the amazing duo, Timon and Pumbaa, but it has one of the better-known deaths to date.

Following the story of Simba, a little prince that is preparing to rule all of his father’s kingdom, viewers will watch as a wholesome story of this little cub is not all fun and laughs. Soon within the show, Mufasa, Simba’s father, dies while protecting his cub. Simba is seen nudging his father’s dead body while pleading, “wake up dad”, which would cause any viewer to break down.

And not only that, but Scar, who was the one who helped killed his father, convinced Simba that he couldn’t go back to his home because he was the cause. Why did they have to go to those lengths just to tear apart the viewers?
