Halloween is a delightful holiday as it is the perfect time to break out all the horror media that can be found and take it in. While the season is all about that spooky aura, there are certainly many people out there that don't like being scared but love everything else about the October staple.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways people can enjoy the holiday without focusing on that aspect of it. For example, there are a handful of non-scary horror games that are based around the day of Halloween but do not contain any major jump scares or moments that make one's skin crawl.

7 The Simpsons Hit & Run

While the game doesn't initially start on Halloween, The Simpsons Hit & Run slowly sets the stage for a wild Halloween event in the middle of Springfield that will force Homer to do what he can to save the day against a potential alien takeover.

The game takes place across seven levels, each being an open hub that players can drive around in and complete missions. The final level takes place on Halloween, with the setting and various vehicles being themed perfectly with spooky vibes. However, players will probably find themselves laughing at the absurdity of it all instead of being scared.

6 HAUNTED: Halloween ‘86

The easiest way to play a game that won't be scary is to play one that doesn't have ridiculously realistic graphics. That's where a delightful homebrew NES game titled HAUNTED: Halloween '86 comes in to celebrate the season without being too much.

Players travel the town of Possum and fight various monsters in this 2D platforming beat 'em up. There is a lot of depth to the game's combat system that allows for different modes of attacking each enemy. Initially released on the NES in 2016, this unique experience can now be played on PC as well.

5 Pumpkin Jack

For a more modern game that is an October ode to the 3D platforming genre, one need look no further than Pumpkin Jack. This colorful experience puts players in the shoes of the Pumpkin Lord known as Jack whose goal is to protect Evil and defeat all that is Good.

While Pumpkin Jack has plenty of platforming moments, there is also a lot of action in the game for those who enjoy taking on different monsters in this eerie setting. There are some puzzles for those who enjoy a good problem to solve too and completing them will help Jack in advancing toward his destiny.

4 MediEvil Remastered

The original PlayStation has plenty of wonderful games on it, so it is no wonder that there are so many remakes coming out of that era. One of these remakes is MediEvil Remastered, which was originally released in 1998 before its 2019 revival.

Exclusive to the PlayStation 4, MediEvil is about a knight named Sir Daniel Fortesque who was slain by a sorcerer named Zarok. Resurrected accidentally by Zarok's magic, the knight uses the opportunity to kill his murderer once and for all. The action-packed game never explicitly brings up Halloween, but the setting and art are definitely a celebration of the season.

3 Batman Arkham Knight

Some of the scenarios that superheroes have to deal with in comic books can be a bit scary, but it will be hard to be scared in Batman Arkham Knight: a game in which the player gets to control the hero that Gotham truly deserves.

The game opens on Halloween night, with Scarecrow having caused a mass evacuation of Gotham City with his threat of unleashing a horrific drug known as the fear toxin. The gameplay of Batman Arkham Knight revolves heavily around combat and stealth while also doing some investigation work.

2 Night In The Woods

Those who enjoy a good story, including one that has a mystery perfect for a Halloween night, will enjoy experiencing Night In The Woods. The plot revolves around Mae as she comes back home after dropping out of college. She arrives in town to see how corporations and the closure of the local mines have slowly made life harder for her community.

On top of that, some individuals start to go missing and Mae and her friends begin to look into why that could be happening. While Night In The Woods itself isn't scary, there are elements that focus on mental health that could be seen as incredibly intense by some.

1 Costume Quest

The best part of Halloween was being a kid, dressing up in a costume that was cool to wear, and taking to the streets to trick or treat. And, of all of the potential non-scary games about Halloween, none have captured the idea of that quite like Costume Quest.

Another classic from Double Fine Productions, Costume Quest is a single-player RPG that stars a pair of twins who get separated after a monster kidnaps one of them. The remaining twin must go around the neighborhood to get other kids to help them in taking down the monsters that took their sibling. Along the way, players can collect important objects such as candy and costume parts.
