This series lets Chang and his guests to explore the influence of food and how it shapes culture and history, so not only are viewers watching some great meals, but they can also learn a great deal along the way.

4 The Final Table

The Final Table is pretty similar to most cooking competitions out there, such as Masterchefor Iron Chef. A total of 24 contestants compete with one another to make it to ‘the final table’, hence the name, and like most competitions, the contestants are more well known in the cooking industry. From awards, prizes to Michelin stars, these chefs know what they’re doing.

These chefs will have to take on several meals around the world in each round that is from a specific culture, such Japan, Brazil, and India. Being well-known in all the cuisines is important on this show. Note, however, this is not the most wholesome show.

3 Chef’s Table

This took a new turn to food shows that are normally aired. Most focus on the food specifically, with little focus on the chefs themselves; however, this show focuses entirely on the chef. For those interested to see how chefs got to where they were, and perhaps interested themselves, this is a great choice.

The Chef’s Table focuses on one chef each episode and walk the viewers along their journey, whether it was in a more traditional way or not. They speak on passions and cultures for that specific individual, so while it is more educational, it still showcases amazing personality and passion that could drive anyone to watch more.

2 Sugar Rush

Don’t worry, bakers, there are some shows fit for all sweet lovers. Sugar Rush was inspired by Cake Boss, Cake Wars, The Great British Baking Show and more. Four teams compete against one another through three rounds. The first is cupcakes, the second is confections and the third is cakes, allowing viewers to get a bunch of recipes and drama packed in one episode.

It’s pretty similar to other baking shows, however they try to keep it fresh by using themes like ‘surprising’ and ‘trending’, even though those are pretty vague. Thankfully, the competitors are creative and passionate that they can always whip something up.

1 The Great British Baking Show

For those that don’t completely enjoy the stressful world of food competitions and cringe at the harsh reviews from judges and hosts, this is the perfect alternative. These home bakers have no professional experience, just experience with the hobby of baking in their spare time. And it is incredibly wholesome. The judges are encouraging and give compliments along with helpful criticism.

And for fans who are interested in learning from what they watch, this is also a great option. Not only does each episode hold three separate rounds of baking, but they do break down ingredients well enough that viewers could bake along with the show.
