Rockstar Games have been responsible for a number of high quality games since their inception in 1998. They have conquered many different genres including Gangster, Western and the Crime thriller. They have created thrilling characters that players idolize and enjoy following as they navigate through the games. But there's one criticism of their games and that is their lack of female characters who feature in major roles.
For instance, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is devoid of female protagonists, but this is due to change in the upcoming GTA 6 which looks set to feature one. It's long overdue as there are so many strong female characters throughout the franchise who could've made the step-up to lead from the front. The same goes for their other big titles. There are many strong female characters but none of them get the opportunity to take center stage.
Elsa Lichtmann: LA Noire
With a title like LA Noire, there has to be a femme fatale thrown into the mix at some point, and low and behold, one arrives in the shape of Elsa Lichtmann. She fled to America after Nazi's killed her whole family. When she appears in the game, she is a singer at the Blue Room nightclub. Sounds like she hits all the tropes of being a femme fatale so far, right?
She becomes the love interest for Detective Cole Phelps which completes the checklist for a femme fatale in a crime noir piece. In typical style for a femme fatale, she refuses to be a victim, and for that reason among others, she is up there with the best female characters in noir games. It would be very interesting to see more of her character if they ever decide to move forward with a sequel to their cult hit.
Sadie Adler: Red Dead Redemption 2
As soon as the player arrives at Adler's Lodge in Red Dead Redemption 2, they are held at gunpoint by Sadie Adler. She proves that she's not to be messed with from the get go. She tends to hand out missions to players during the night whilst her husband does it during the day.
The original Red Dead Redemption never mentioned her character so its unknown what happened to her character, but many fans would love to see her return in a spin-off in the future.
Maude Eccles: GTA 5
Maude Eccles in GTA 5 is a minor character but every time she's on-screen, she lights it up with her unique spin on life and leaves fans wanting more. She lives in a trailer park, running her business from there and features in a memorable strangers and freaks side mission.
She sets up the mission for Trevor to hunt down four undesirables, and after completing it, she tells him about her dream of having a garden with a white picket fence, a dog named Skip and a husband. She also announces that she is retiring so who knows, somewhere in the Grand Theft Auto universe, Maude could be doing just that.
Abigail Marston: Red Dead Redemption 2
Abigail features in both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2.and she is one hell of a fierce woman and that's what the fans love about her.
She started out as a prostitute before marrying John Marston and taking care of the ranch. She features heavily in the epilogue of Red Dead Redemption 2, which cements her importance in the story, but fans just wish she was given more to do over the two games. There aren't any possibilities for her to feature in a sequel as her character is dead. The only way would be to feature her in another prequel, but that is unlikely as they already went down that route.
Catalina: GTA 3 & San Andreas
A cruel and sadistic character, Catalina is one of the most memorable female characters in the GTA series. She loves to rob banks, and has no qualms about killing innocent people. Let's not judge her too much though, as gamers also love to occasionally run down the public when they get in the way.
She was the love interest for CJ before he got fed up with her, and she then ran off with Claude. But she's more than just the significant other to these characters, she is one of the best villains despite not getting the focus she deserves in the games.
Lucia: GTA 6
Although we haven't yet seen this character in full swing, it has been revealed through leaks that Lucia will be the first female protagonist in a Rockstar Games production.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is been rumored to feature a Bonnie and Clyde style storyline, with the character of Lucia being the first playable character ever in the franchise. Details are sketchy on her, but what we do know is that she'll be a gun wielding Latina. Fans are already sold on her character and she'll be a great addition to the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
