The DC Universe is filled with iconic and legendary characters. These characters come from all different kinds of backgrounds and origins. One thing that might be overlooked is who raised these characters, or maybe if any of these characters are parents themselves. DC Comics has no shortage of female characters and a few of them are also mothers.

Mothers are responsible for shaping their children's minds and values. What would a hero be without his or her mother? Mothers aren't recognized enough in comics, so it's time to look at some of the most iconic in all of the DC Universe.

6 Rosa Vasquez

Rosa Vasquez is the adopted mother of Billy Batson and his six foster siblings. Billy Batson was of course granted special powers from a wizard and became the hero called Shazam. Later the other six siblings also acquired super abilities and became the Shazam Family. Rosa prides herself on being a loving mother even if the children aren't biologically her own.

She continued this love even after they gained all their superpowers. With her husband Victor, Rosa has created a powerful family that loves each other and sticks together no matter what. Rosa and Victor were orphans themselves, so they know how important it is for a child to have parents who treat them right.

5 Talia Al Ghul

Talia Al Ghul is the infamous daughter of Ra's Al Ghul and heir to the League of Assassins. Talia and Batman had a complex relationship that eventually led to them having a baby together. Their child is Damien Wayne, Batman and Talia's only biological son. Damien was raised at a young age by his mother. Talia was a ruthless mother who trained her son to fight from birth.

Talia intended to train Damien into becoming an expert assassin who would eventually kill Batman. Luckily, Damien abandoned the League of Assassins and chose to follow in his father's footsteps as Robin. Talia grew to hate Damien for leaving her and eventually cloned his DNA to make another child. Talia is one of the most brutal and horrible mothers a hero could ask for.

4 Catwoman

In an alternate version of Earth called Earth-2, Catwoman and Batman had a child together. They had a daughter named Helena who was born into the wealth of the Wayne family. Catwoman hung up her suit and claws to be a mother but later gave baby Helena up for adoption.

Helena grew up to become a respectable young woman until one day Catwoman was blackmailed into returning to crime, causing her to lose her life. Wanting to avenge her mother's death, Helena became a vigilante known as the Huntress. The Huntress was responsible for bringing her mother's killers to justice and continued her new life as a hero. Catwoman may not be responsible for raising her child, but she is the reason she grew up to be a hero.

3 Mera

Mera has been the mother of a few children throughout DC Comics' complicated history but right now she is the mother of just one. Mera had a child with Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, named Andrina. Mera has a lot on her plate as a mother. She's a superhero, a member of the Justice League, and the Queen of Atlantis.

With that being said, she does an excellent job of balancing her work life and family life. In an alternate dimension, Mera had a different baby with Arthur who was destined to become the most powerful being in all the seven seas. Unfortunately, the baby was murdered by Black Manta, which caused Mera's life to be shattered. Luckily this reality has been retconned and Mera remains a successful parent and ruler.

2 Hippolyta

Hippolyta was born to be a mother. In fact, she created her child Diana by morphing a body out of clay and praying to the Gods to give it life. Hippolyta saw this gift as a sign to raise her daughter to become the noble and respectable Princess of Themyscira. She gave Diana the very best training, education, and love she could.

Hippolyta thought Diana was destined to become Themyscira's greatest ruler, but it turned out her destiny was much greater than that. Diana wanted to make the whole world a better place so Hippolyta granted her freedom and she of course went on to become the hero, Wonder Woman.

1 Martha Kent

Martha Kent lived a simple life with her husband Jonathan on their farm in Kentucky until their whole lives changed one day. A mysterious aircraft crash-landed in their barn, and inside of it was a baby. At this moment, Martha and Jonathan had a choice to make, to raise this baby as their own or leave his fate up to God. They of course chose to keep the baby and raise him as their own.

When Martha discovered that their new baby Clark had incredible powers, that didn't affect her way of parenting whatsoever. She still chose to raise him as a normal child, with love, respect, and care. Clark grew up to become the greatest hero in the universe and one of the most important characters in all of fiction. He has his mother Martha to thank for that.
