After entering early access back in May 2022, V Rising crossed the one million mark in sales in just its first week out. The survival horror game has only grown in popularity since then. Garnering considerable acclaim for its combat systems and boss battles, V Rising's look at the vampire lifestyle is surprisingly complicated and craft-focused.

While players do have to keep the character's bloodlust in check, there's much more to do beyond feeding. Resurrected into a world that has moved on from vampires, the player character must rebuild from scratch in all areas, making for a time-consuming but immersive gaming experience that continues to wow players one year on. Armor, of course, is a key aspect of keeping the player safe, and some sets are better than others.

6 Merciless Nightstalker Armor: An Updated Nightstalker

V Rising: Merciless Nightstalker Armor

As if the original Nightstalker set wasn't enough, players can create Copper Ingots and add them on to create the superior Merciless Nightstalker outfit. While the Gear Level of 4 is nothing to write home about, the suit's litany of perks makes it one of the more underrated suits of armor on offer.

The Merciless Nightstalker get-up provides players with a commendable +127 boost to health. Better still, the armor makes up for its middling Gear Level by providing players a level-plus when wearing the full kit. Wearing the whole outfit also enhances a player's offensive capabilities by two points, making it a handy tool when entering hazardous boss fights. With a neat, color-coordinated aesthetic and plenty of enhancements, the Merciless Nightstalker is a great set of armor for mid-level players looking to move up in V Rising's chaotic, dangerous world.

5 Merciless Hollowfang Armor: A Great Fit For Combat

V Rising: Merciless Hollowfang Armor

Another addition to the Merciless line, the Merciless Hollowfang Armor is a fantastic outfit for players looking to spike their offensive capabilities. Coming in at Gear Level 6, this slick getup can be crafted by adding Iron Ingots to the Hollowfang Armor set. Sporting two pieces of the outfit will provide players with a boost in movement speed. Better still, wearing the full set gives players an attack speed boost and a Gear Level-up.

To acquire this armor, players will need to construct a Study and start getting to work on the V Rising Scrolls. The scrolls contain a variety of top-tier recipes, including what the player needs to put the Merciless Hollowfang Armor together. From there, making this handy, versatile gear is a straightforward exercise at the Tailoring Bench for attack-focused players.

4 Dawnthorn Armor: A Great Defensive Complement

V Rising Dawnthorn Armor

Aesthetically speaking, this flashy purple and black getup is a suitably spooky yet extravagant aesthetic for this style of horror gaming. At Gear Level 7, this armor comes in handy on defense, providing players with +252 in health points.

To assemble this neat armor, players must battle and defeat Octavian the Militia Captain. Players will encounter Octavian in the eastern portion of the Dunley Farmlands at the Bastion of Dunley. At level 58, the Militia Captain is no slouch, but the armor is well worth the hassle. Considering the staggering number of abilities Octavian boasts, players should keep defensive spells such as Chaos Volley and Sanguine Coil at the ready if they want to get the job done.

3 Twilight Armor: A Defensive Upgrade On Dawnthorn

Twilight Armor

At Gear Level 7, with +252 in health points, the Twilight Armor is, at a glance, no better than the Dawnthorn Armor. However, this hard-to-access armor has an essential property that the Dawnthorn lacks. When wearing all four pieces of armor together as a complete set, a sunlight immunity perk presents itself. Instead of coming to a grim end under the heat of the sun, those sporting the armor will sparkle akin to the vampires in Twilight, putting a key vampiric fear to rest.

Infuriatingly, this top tier armor is only obtainable through console commands. This is bad news for any player whose server is not permitting, leading to many having to simply settle for the flashier, but less powerful, Dawnthorn instead.

2 Blood Moon Armor: All-Round Enhancer

V Rising Death Armor

There are perks galore for this piece of defensive wear, including a whopping +307 health increase, an increase in the speed of the player's general movements, and, provided the player is wearing the whole set, an increase in general attack speed.

At a high Gear Level of 8, the Blood Moon Armor is an elite outfit for players who have come far enough to operate the Atheneum. When it comes to building and development in the player's Castle, the Atheneum is about as top tier as it gets, allowing players to obtain the most worthwhile armor set outside the console command medium.

As brilliant as the Blood Moon Armor is, players must be aware that building it comes at a considerable price. In order to make it, the player must sacrifice their Dawnthorn Armor. Considering the superiority of the Blood Moon pieces, though, the profit more than makes up for the high price.

1 Death Armor: The Ultimate Defensive Outfit

V Rising Death Armor

When it comes to defense, it doesn't get better than the Death Armor set. Coming in at a Gear Level of 9, the Death Armor, is ironically, the best thing a player can have to avoid death in action.

Aesthetically, the Death Armor is eerily similar to the Blood Moon Armor. However, its massive +370 health add-on puts it in a class of its own for function. Considering the difficulty of some of the bosses the player will inevitably encounter, the health boost can be the key difference maker between getting the job done and having to start all over again.

For players disappointed in the repetitive look in the armor, it appears, based on the inventory sprite, that a more standout design is in the works and may take over with a future update. Either way, this armor is one of the quickest ways to essentially put the game on an easier level of difficulty.
