Main characters and protagonists are the most important part of any story, whether it be a book, a movie, or a television series. They are the perspective by which the audience views the story, and the more they respect and identify with the character, the more they will enjoy the story.
A main character in a story is sometimes referred as a hero. A hero in this context refers to a character that performs great achievements or deeds. While not every story has a hero, there were definitely a lot of heroes that appeared in the Spring 2022 anime season. Here are the best heroes from that season.
10 Leon Fou Bartfort (The World Of Otome Games Is Tough For Mobs)
Leon Fou Bartfort doesn't seem like your usual gallant hero; he's lazy, unmotivated, and he has a bitter outlook on life. The grueling life he was born into which had him be beaten down by every woman around him only enforces that mentality.
Nevertheless, Leon does have some heroic qualities to him. He has the courage to go out on an adventure (even if he lacks motivation), and he stands up to injustice (even if it's just to knock down an arrogant noble). While he revels in playing a villain, his actions cause more good than bad.
9 Leo Demonhart (I'm Quitting Heroing)
The hero Leo Demonhart has been fighting for humanity for a long time, yet they never seem to appreciate his efforts. With the most recent defeat of the Demon Queen Echidna, the humans he worked hard to save try to kill him - so he decides to bring his talents to the Demons instead.
While this may seem like the story of a hero becoming a villain, the Demon Army is much more sympathetic than initially assumed. Leo's efforts in the Demon Army help to keep them from falling apart and causing even more trouble.
8 Arc (Skeleton Knight In Another World)
Initially a gamer in the real world, Arc awakens in his in-game avatar, with all of his in-game abilities. He immediately embarks on the fantasy adventure of his dreams, dampened only by the fact that, because of the avatar he chose, his body has become that of a skeleton's.
Although Arc in reality is an amateur fighter, the natural strength of his character and his abilities and equipment allow him to get the better of his foes. Arc spends the majority of his time freeing slaves with his companion Ariane, making him a reassuring ally of justice.
7 Eiko Tsukimi (Ya Boy Kongming!)
Not all heroes are seasoned warriors. Eiko may just be a singer, but she's one with dreams of becoming a star. While her chance meeting with Kongming is what helps give her the boost she's looking for, her own talent and hard work cannot be denied.
Having a tactician like Kongming is certainly beneficial, but it'd all go to waste without Eiko's own passion and determination. Her natural charisma and incredible singing ability charm those who listen to her songs, and her success is as much because of her own ability as it is Kongming's strategies.
6 Yuichi Katagiri (Tomodachi Game)
One day, the funds for the class's school trip are stolen. Soon after, Yuichi Katagiri and his four closest friends are drawn into a mysterious event called the Tomodachi Game. Once companions that trusted each other, Yuichi and his friends now must distrust and betray each other in order to get through the game and earn back the money.
Seemingly a normal high school student, Yuichi soon reveals himself to be a rather manipulative and conniving character. While he treasures his friends, he has no mercy for those he considers enemies, and treats them accordingly.
5 Ashito Aoi (Ao Ashi)
Ashito Aoi is initially a rather skilled but egocentric soccer player; he's clearly the best out of his middle school team, but his insistence on being the player to score the goal can seem grating. While Ashito believes that he has the potential to become a professional soccer player, he soon hits a wall, showing that he lacks the proper fundamentals to claim such prestige.
Nevertheless, Ashito's determination and willingness to work harder than everyone else wins out. Rather than complain about what he doesn't know, he tries to work towards improving himself. While his learning rate is a little slow, when he finally understands, his improvement is remarkable.
4 Myne (Ascendance Of A Bookworm Season 3)
Once a book-loving woman from Japan, Myne is now a little girl with dreams of making books in a world where such a thing is unbelievably scarce. As she uses her knowledge of modern technology to put together her first book, Myne goes from an unassuming child to a business entrepreneur to blue-robed priestess.
Myne's adventures aren't all about making books. She also has to deal with the politics of the church and nobility, as well as unscrupulous forces that want to use her knowledge for their own ends. Nevertheless, she perseveres, and her strength of heart is certainly admirable.
3 Shinpei Ajiro (Summer Time Rendering)
Shinpei Ajiro is a normal high school boy. However, when he first encounters the Shadows, mysterious beings that mimic and kill humans, he discovers that he has a strange ability to turn back time whenever he is killed.
Realizing this, Shinpei decides to use his powers to save his friends and fight off the malevolent Shadows. While he may not always be successful, his perseverance and determination to save those close to him make Shinpei a courageous character.
2 Twilight (Spy x Family)
Master spy, Twilight is one of the most capable agents of WISE. He is sent to take charge of Operation Strix, where he must put together a fake family in order to make contact with Donovan Desmond and prevent war between Westalis and Ostania.
While Twilight tends to portray himself as a cold and stoic character, he is much more compassionate than he lets on. He truly believes in working to make a better world for the future, and while Operation Strix can be silly at times, his intentions are truly heroic.
1 Xin (Kingdom)
War has always been a way for young fighters to make a name for themselves. This especially holds true in Warring States of China, when multiple kingdoms all attempted to vie for mastery of land. Noble warriors counted themselves among the ranks of each kingdom's army, and there is no shortage of heroes scoring achievements in battle.
Nevertheless, Xin stands head and shoulders over them all. While he isn't the highest-ranked or even the strongest warrior on the battlefield, his tenacity, charisma, and instinctual leadership skills allow him to lead his soldiers to victory after victory. Xin's achievements in battle are shocking for a person of his rank and youth.
