In the latest issue of the Young Animal magazine released in Japan, announcing the return of Berserk with a brand-new chapter kicking off the first new arc for the series in over ten years. The upcoming chapter drops on September 22, with a brand-new volume coming out a week later on the 29th.

The upcoming volume will be the first new Berserk volume since the passing of author Kentaro Miura in May 2021. The last chapter released came out in May, concluding the Fantasia Arc that Miura had been working on up until his untimely passing, with concept arc and details he laid out to staff at Studio Gaga, and close friend Koji Mori being used to wrap up the arc.

A colour artwork featuring Berserk protagonist Guts and the fairy known as Puck was released to announce the upcoming 42nd volume of the manga, with the 41st – the last that Miura worked on directly – will be getting its English release courtesy of Dark Horse Comics on November 16. The Berserk manga has been running since 1989, with its serialization in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine going from 1992 until present.

The last chapter illustrated by Miura was Berserk chapter 364, "Tear of Morning Dew" was released in September 2021, with the continuation of the manga by Studio Gaga supervised by Mori coming in June 2022. A 25-episode anime series produced by OLM was released in October 1997, running until 1998.

The series adapted the Golden Age arc, with the second season arriving nearly 20 years later in 2016 produced by Liden Films, GEMBA, and Millepensee, running for a total of 24 episodes. The first half ran from June to September 2016, while the second half ran from April 2017 to June 2017. A remastered version of the first season titled Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition aired from October to December 2022.

The Berserk manga by Kentaro Miura is credited as a major source of inspiration and a pioneer of the dark fantasy genre not only in anime and manga, but videogames, western comics, literature, and even film – all forms of media have been influenced by the series. Various pivotal manga works and mangaka themselves have been profoundly inspired by Miura's magnum opus that he was unfortunately unable to bring to completion himself. The upcoming new chapter arrives September 22, with the 42nd volume of Berserk dropping a week later on September 29th.
