Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Marvel Studios' first step into the horror realm. The movie was done very well and recent revelations have shown that some key scenes were rewritten by the film's star Benedict Cumberbatch.

Doctor Strange is a Marvel superhero who is responsible for ensuring the realms of reality stay intact while also serving as one of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The character was once relatively unknown and has now become somewhat of a household name.

The character has become so popular that Cumberbatch has become attached to Doctor Strange, even going as far as to help write the scenes. Speaking to Prestige, Cumberbatch detailed the amount of work that went into Doctor Strange 2. "I got to write some of those scenes," the actor started. "I suggested that it needed to get darker at a point. There was a slightly more saccharine version at one stage and I’m really happy with the way it evolved. Sam Raimi was so game for it and Michael Waldron really supported me to write it as well."

It also turns out that the final battle in Doctor Strange 2 went through different versions and was only supposed to have two Doctor Stranges initially. "We turned what was a very small combat between the two into a sort of very bizarre and inventive battle in that moment," Cumberbatch said, which is presumably referring to the final battle. "It was how the original was pitched to me a long while back when Scott Derrickson was still working with us: Strange would meet versions of himself. It was something I wanted to lean into."

It wasn't just Cumberbatch though, as the actor goes on to admit that it really was a team effort that brought Doctor Strange 2 together. "It’s strange, apart from some of the crew, I think I was the only person continuing the story and sort of safeguarding Strange...guiding his character into being and sometimes even educating people about another, which is a very weird responsibility because I still feel like I’ve got a lot more to discover," he said. "There’s so much lore in the comics to bring into the MCU and that’s just the beginning for his character."

Doctor Strange 2 ended up doing relatively well and has ushered in new support from fans who want to see Raimi direct more Marvel superhero films. Many have been calling for Raimi to direct the long-awaited Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire. For now, fans will have to take solace in the product that Raimi delivered with the incredibly well-done Doctor Strange sequel.
