The world of RPG Time: The Legend of Wright can be substantially overwhelming to any new player. A child's mind is hard to dissect, especially if players aren’t prepared for what's in store. In addition, there are several levels to this adorably imaginative TTRPG, which can cause a lot of confusion for newcomers.

Within this charming handmade tale, players will take the hero, Wright, and still maintain the role of Kenta’s real-world friend. The title takes the hero through worlds of fantasy-based stories, such as a haunted witches' hut or the stomach of an intimidating beast. While the premise seems relatively straightforward, there are some tips to make the journey a lot easier.

10 Be Prepared For A Lot Of Dialogue

When it comes to TTRPGs, a lot of dialogue is expected to follow, and RPG Time: The Legend of Wright undeniably feeds into that idea. From the moment the game is started, the player is bombarded with dialogue from the game master, Kenta. Going forward, each character the player meets within the adventure has a lot to say.

Although these interactions are filled with personality and charm by Kenta, there is still a considerable amount of dialogue to ingest. It doesn't seem too overwhelming if a player is prepared to face this monstrous amount of chat. But to a player utterly unsuspecting of what's to come, the sheer amount of text can be detrimental to enjoying the game.

9 Listen To Kenta’s Instructions

Between Kenta’s excessive descriptions and consistent chat with the player, he also provides valuable insights into each level, area, and enemy, which can be incredibly beneficial for any player slightly lost. Additionally, it’s integral to listen carefully to Kenta’s instructions since many plot points or gameplay mechanics are easy to miss if a player tries to skip through as much text as possible.

Additionally, Kenta will talk the player through a tutorial at the beginning of the title. This tutorial isn’t necessarily the only instance players will have to get to grips with controls, but it’s one of the most significant. Every time Wright gains a new skill, Kenta is quick to explain the ability - but if information regarding the essential controls is needed - then this beginners tutorial is the only instance.

8 Check Every Inch Of The Map

The charming, hand-drawn levels within RPG Time: The Legend of Wright's major campaign are home to hundreds of secrets many players could easily ignore. To find hidden items like food or humorous insights into certain characters, it’s essential to check every corner of the map.

Of course, veterans of any RPG will know this trick already. So it’s reassuring that RPG Time doesn’t miss this classic element. However, checking each corner during chases or levels where Wright is expected to run is hard. However, this title allows Wright to re-visit areas after completing pages. So there is always a chance to find something which initially went unnoticed.

7 Speak To Every NPC

Even though the land of Cardboardia is home to a massive cast of characters, speaking to every NPC is similar to exploring every corner of the map. It might seem long-winded, but there are some aspects to the storyline or levels that can easily be ignored without these conversations.

These characters can provide valuable hints toward the story that Kenta strays from explaining. Even though they mainly produce humorous jokes or witty one-liners toward Wright, they have their perks as the story progresses. Side quests can also be retrieved through NPCs, resulting in hearty food-based rewards.

6 Don’t Be Afraid Of The Hint Bug

With this title being created by the imaginative mind of a ten-year-old, having a hint bug may seem like overkill. But after seeing the Game Over screen a handful of times with one level, it’s there to act as an aid rather than a sign of weakness. Additionally, if the player misses an essential piece of information from Kenta, the hint bug usually provides a recap without giving the aim away.

No matter the difficulty, each level will host a hint bug on the Game Over screen. Although it tends to state the obvious, there’s still a reassurance knowing it's there for any struggling adventurer.

5 Look For Unexpected Weapons During Boss Battles

Despite boss battles having a straightforward premise similar to the story, there are a few elements on the screen for players to use in battles to help out. For example, within the first boss battle, a few swipes of a pencil will weaken the cyclops, but the player will need to take note of items like the bucket and the soda bottle to progress.

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright encourages players to pay close attention to every element on the screen at all times. Much like exploring a map, each page needs careful analysis for anything that could positively benefit Wright’s journey - even if the player is just trying to find the minininja.

4 Have The Imagination Of A Child

Alongside a curious exploration and a willingness to listen to Kenta’s expansive descriptions, players must adopt a childlike imagination to immerse themselves into the game entirely. If players think too literally, they may stunt their gameplay. Additionally, utilizing the creativity that both Kenta and the playable character would adopt in this scenario may expose specific ideas or paths which would otherwise be ignored.

By regressing into a childlike state, RPG Time can be seen in a different light. It’s easier to take part in mini-games and ignite a youthful admiration for the creativity of the game if players adopt a similar level of imagination. It’s one of the most compelling features of RPG Time, so it’s a vital step to take.

3 Take A Moment To Admire The Art Style

Outside its relatively frantic storyline, the main draw of RPG Time is the hand-drawn, handmade art style. To enjoy the game, taking a moment to admire the art and the charm of the title is essential. Additionally, taking a step back to admire its beauty may reveal tabletop elements which are easy to miss if players are so focussed on the storybook side of things.

It’s an incredibly easy game to get lost within, especially with the number of things happening on the screen at one time; taking a step back may lessen the overwhelming on-screen action and let players enjoy the beauty of the art style.

2 Don’t Eat The Light Fragments

Even though it’s stated several times within the gameplay by the Princess, the light fragments given to Wright throughout the story are not to be consumed. Although every food item looks inviting within this game, these light fragments are integral to the final battle, and frankly, losing them isn’t worth the risk.

Each time the player reaches for the candy-shaped light fragments, Kenta will quickly put on the princess's voice and advise them not to. So it’s unlikely any player will risk eating these tiny Konpeitō candies; however, they look incredibly tempting.

1 Take Part In Every Mini-Game

It’s tempting to focus on the storyline in RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, but taking part in each mini-game lovingly created by Kenta can provide some valuable items to the player. For example, in between each map, Wright is tasked with building a hero burger. While this mini-game is simple and revolves around stacking magnetic burger toppings, these burgers could be life or death later in the game.

The same can be said for most other mini-games within The Legend of Wright. They are all there for a reason; whether it’s to aid the story or provide the player with items to use later on, they are essential. Not to mention how fun they are as a break in the central campaign.

RPG Time: The Legend Of Wright was released on March 9, 2022, and is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
