Heirs of the Kings is a traditional JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre. The game focuses around Laura, who lost all of her memory and is being pursued by unknown soldiers who know full well that she can cast high magic. Thus, she sets on a quest to understand the truth behind herself.

Many players will instantly take to the game and all of its quirks and intricacies. However, others will struggle a bit with the difficulty curve of the game. For those just starting their adventure, take note of these beginner tips.

6 The Beginning Is a Bit Slow

If a player finds themselves itching for a fight at the beginning of the game, but can't seem to find any, that does not mean they made a wrong turn or are experiencing the game wrong. In fact, many players agree that Heirs of the Kings starts off slow, to say the laest

Players will have to go through a lot of dialogue and world building at the beginning of the game. That does not mean, however, that they are going to be going through this forever. The information dump will end eventually, and players will be able to battle on their own. There's just a lot of exposition to sit through first.

5 Controls Might Be Difficult on Mobile

One unique aspect of Heirs of the Kings compared to other JRPGs is that it is actually available on mobile. On top of that, mobile offers the ability to play the game in portrait mode instead of horizontally, which is also uncommon. However, playing on mobile comes with its drawbacks.

Specifically, it may be a bit difficult to control the game on the mobile version. It may be difficult, for example, to touch the right spot to move forward, or cast the right spell. If possible, playing on a console may be preferable just for ease of use.

4 Get Used to the Battle System

The battle system in Heirs of the Kings is turn based. Everyone takes their turn and waits for the enemy's turn to end. While this format is common in JRPGs, that does not mean a player can instantly settle in. It's not necessarily going to be like every JRPG they've experienced before.

A player will have to keep an eye out at the top of the screen to get a good look at when everyone's turns are coming up next. This allows them to plan their moves ahead to strategically defeat enemies. Of course, there is no better way for a player to get used to the turn-based battle system than to play through a few battles. Practice will help players pick up the nuances of battle, on top of helping them gain experience and items to aid in their quest.

3 Interact with Everything

Heirs of Kings - Lightning

Like in many RPGs, players should interact with everything that they can. It is one of the best ways to get themselves out of a rut of not knowing how to advance the story.

Sometimes, it may not be obvious that a player has to interact with something or someone specific in order advance. As such, if a player gets stuck, one of the best things to do is to look around every corner and interact with everything they can. This could lead them to the interaction that gives the important lore tidbit needed to advance.

2 Talk To Everybody

Seeing as there are many characters and NPCs scattered throughout game world, it would do a player good to talk to everyone they can. This can be a good way to pick up hidden items or, similar to interacting with everything, to advance the plot forward.

Most of the time, a player will have to speak to a specific NPC if they want to progress the story of the game. However, if they go out of their way and talk to everyone, there could be a chance that NPCs give them items that can help in gameplay (such as potions or weapons). If a player finds themselves stuck, it's possible that they neglected to speak to a key NPC.

1 Stock Up on Healing Items

The game's combat will be difficult without healing items. Sure, there are some healing skills that characters can use, but it may not be enough to support a player in the beginning.

Luckily, there are multiple towns in the game that have healing items for a player to buy and use. They are all relatively cheap as well, meaning that a player just has to save up a little bit of money before they are able to stock up on a few healing items at a shop in town. As mentioned above, it's also possible to get these for free by speaking to some NPCs.

Heirs of the Kings is available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S.
