Ever since its reveal in 2017, Bayonetta 3 has been one of the Switch's most anticipated titles. This was compounded by a lack of trailers, with the first gameplay look fans received being late last year. Fans were given a much more extensive look at the game quite recently, where the latest Bayonetta 3 trailer gave fans a release date, after a long period of silence. With the game finally arriving this October, PlatinumGames has been gradually giving out details of what to expect in this game.

One of these new features that wasn't shown off in the trailer was Bayonetta 3's Naive Angel Mode. This is an optional mode, whereupon it being toggled on, it will cover up certain elements that show plenty of skin from the character. This is more prominent with certain attacks or incantations where she uses her hair, as her hair is also her bodysuit. This mode was shown off in a video from PlatinumGames, which highlight the differences. Bayonetta series creator Hideki Kamiya recently spoke up about this mode, reaffirming that this decision was entirely PlatinumGames and that Nintendo had never asked the company to censor any of its games.

In a recent tweet thread translated by Nintendo Everything, Kamiya notes that he saw that Nintendo was brought up as being the reason why this optional mode was implemented into Bayonetta 3. He reiterates the only time that Nintendo asked for a change during the development of the Bayonetta series on Nintendo's consoles was regarding Bayonetta's Link costume. Even then, they asked for the costume to be even more revealing, as the initial design included an undershirt and Nintendo felt it would be out of character for her to be wearing one.

Further in the thread, Kamiya comments that there were no biases from Nintendo involved that influenced the decision to add Bayonetta 3's Naive Angel Mode. He reaffirms that players can enjoy the game without worrying that Nintendo asked the designers to censor any part of the game. He ends off the thread with an old interview with Iwacchi (a nickname for the late Satoru Iwata), where he states that Nintendo isn't a company with "red tape around every corner." In addition, he stated that the company is open to discussion regarding the development and sales of its games.

Kamiya is an outspoken member of the gaming industry, where he's known for being incredibly vocal regarding the English-speaking fans he has on Twitter. He's expressed positive opinions regarding the development of Bayonetta 3, stating that much like how Bayonetta 2 wouldn't have been possible without Nintendo, this third entry was only possible with its support.

Bayonetta 3 will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022.
