Series creator Hideki Kamiya comments that the Bayonetta series isn't over yet, and he discusses some of the games and plans regarding its future. The stylish action series finally dropped its long-awaited third entry this year after a lengthy development cycle. While the Bayonetta 3's ending was pretty divisive among the fans, it did leave the doors open for future games to be set up. Some of these plans for future games were discussed by Hideki Kamiya in a recent interview.

Kamiya is known for being a rather notable member of the game development scene, not only for being the face of PlatinumGames, but also one of the most vocal and infamous. In an interview with IGN, the creator discusses what the future of the Bayonetta series will hold and the way the game's universe will shape from here. Kamiya notes that he has a structure for where the story will go in the future, with players only knowing what is released and judging based on what they play. He further states that he hears fans wondering how the series will end due to lack of passion. However, it's quite the opposite, with him having a great passion for the Bayonetta IP.

This segues into whether or not a Bayonetta 4 or even 5 will be happening in the future, considering the game developer's past comments. Kamiya says that he "can't conceive" the Bayonetta series ever ending, where he flat out states that he intends to pitch both a fourth and fifth game to PlatinumGames. He also notes how there are internal discussions about how he plans on making nine games in the series, hoping not to "betray the players."

Kamiya was then asked about the possibility of making spin-offs to the series, with him stating he would love to make them. It should be noted this interview was conducted before the announcement of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2022. In terms of other spin-off ideas he had, he stated that a game featuring Jeanne and her superhero identity, Cutie J, would be fun to explore.

Kamiya's passion for the Bayonetta series is reinforced by how the series is very important to him, and he doesn't "fixate on the numbers" that are attached to the game. He elaborates that he hopes to depict the extensive world of Bayonetta that currently resides in his mind with these games. For the time being, however, the Bayonetta universe is indeed expanding with the aforementioned Bayonetta Origins prequel title releasing in 2023.

Bayonetta 3 is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
