At last year's E3, Microsoft announced that a new Battletoads game would be coming to Xbox One at some point in 2019, nearly 30 years after the first Battletoads released on NES. Since this Battletoads announcement at E3 2018, information on the forthcoming title has been relatively scarce, but a new trailer has just been released, and it gives fans a closer look at this entry in the Battletoads franchise.

The new Battletoads trailer was revealed during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference, as an E3 2019 rumor indicated it would be, and it highlights a number of details about the title. Right off the bat, the Battletoads E3 2019 trailer focuses on the characters that will return for this new game, and fans can now look forward to taking Rash, Pimple, and Zitz into battle when the Battletoads release date finally arrives.

From there, the E3 2019 Battletoads trailer highlights the game's "explosive three-player couch co-op" and "intense beat 'em up action." For those that have been following the development of Battletoads, and are familiar with previous entries in the series, this focus on cooperative play and action will not be surprising. However, this trailer is the first time these aspects of the game have been seen through actual Battletoads gameplay footage.

Indeed, this new trailer is players' first glimpse at Battletoads gameplay, and fans can now plan to take their favorite fighting toads into action against foes such as Porkshank, a suspender-wearing pig, and more. That said, combat is not the only thing that is on the menu for Battletoads, as it is indicated that the game will feature "epic" puzzles and platforming as well.

Unfortunately for those that are looking forward to getting their hands on this new title, no details on the Battletoads release date were offered by the trailer. Thus, it remains to be seen if Rare and Microsoft are able to launch the game within the year, as per the previous announcement, or if it will be delayed to 2020. Whatever the case may be, the Battletoads gameplay trailer shown during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference, at least, confirms that things are continuing to progress with the game.

Battletoads has been announced for a 2019 release for PC and Xbox One.
