In another positive move for EA and DICE's Battlefield franchise, David Sirland has announced he's returning to the franchise to lead production. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster year for DICE after launching Battlefield 2042 last year. The game had a notoriously poor launch due to server issues, bugs, and disappointment from a Battlefield community that took issue with missing features, lackluster maps, and gameplay changes that many felt veered too far away from the traditional core experience. Shifting post-launch plans, DICE went to work at fixing the game and in the following months have managed to really turn around Battlefield 2042. The recently released Season 3 update for Battlefield 2042 has made some smart changes and even made the game available on Game Pass, opening the title up for an even bigger pool of players to check out. The game's turnaround has even given rise to more positive developments as DICE further details what fans can expect down the road in Seasons 4 and 5. Previously working on the past 3 Battlefield games, Sirland's arrival comes at a good time as he takes on a Lead Producer role for the franchise.

The announcement also attempted to temper expectations from longtime fans who may be excited to hear the news. While Sirland revealed that he's eager to help make the future of Battlefield brighter and better than ever, details as to what that means will be coming at some point in the future. In the meantime, Sirland promised fans that he would listen to their feedback, both the good and bad, to help create experience that fans love to play.

Even though there was plenty of disappointment at EA this past June over the performance of Battlefield 2042 to that point, the company has doubled down on the franchise as a whole. Earlier this year, reports started surfacing that new Battlefield games were in development, which was later confirmed by Ridgeline Games, a studio under the direction of former Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto. The narrative focused Battlefield title should have plenty to learn from, as Lehto even took to Twitter to show support for longtime fans and what they want from the series.

Battlefield 2042 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
