Battlefield 2042 has confirmed that Season 6 will follow the game's upcoming fifth season. Hampered by a disappointing 2021 launch, Battlefield 2042 has put some work in to improve the game with a more consistent post-launch output as well as reworks to most of the multiplayer shooter's base maps.

Titled New Dawn, Battlefield 2042's imminent Season 5 is about to add a wealth of new content to refresh the player base. Over the past several months, the general sentiment around Battlefield 2042 has been that the flawed title is slowly improving, yet it still hasn't been able to recapture the player numbers it once had at launch. With a new snowy map called Reclaimed, three new weapons, several new gadgets, and the long-awaited rework of the Hourglass launch map, Season 5 will hope to satisfy players who have stuck with the game since its rocky launch as well as entice new players to join the battlefield.

Battlefield 2042 fans are surely looking forward to what the new season will bring to the table, but developer DICE isn't leaning on Season 5 alone. On Twitter, Battlefield officially announced that 2042 will see a sixth season after Season 5: New Dawn wraps up. It added that players can expect to learn more about Season 6 sometime during Season 5.

The image used in the tweet features dark green rain clouds reminiscent of Battlefield 2042's launch cover art. Since all the game's seasons have featured unique artwork that incorporated other color schemes, it's interesting why the Season 6 art harkens back to the base game so heavily. It could just be that this is simply an early confirmation and that the real cover art for Season 6 will be revealed alongside all the new info later in Season 5.

There's also the possibility that Season 6 could turn out to be Battlefield 2042's final season. With rumblings of DICE spinning up a support team to help Ridgeline Games develop a new Battlefield single-player campaign and Ripple Effect making a different Battlefield experience, it seems like the future of the franchise is moving forward and that could mean 2042 being left behind. If this is the case, players who have invested in 2042's live service are likely to be displeased. Until then, players can still look forward to Season 5's offerings and to learning more about what lies beyond it in Season 6.

Battlefield 2042 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
