Battlefield 2042 is set to receive its full release next month following an open beta that left some fans concerned for the next generation of warfare. Fans have remarked that the game is in need of a bit of polish, with some even calling for Battlefield 2042 to be delayed. The game has already received a one-month setback, which saw its release pushed from October to November, but fans are willing to be patient in aid of getting the best Battlefield experience out of Battlefield 2042.

One thing that Battlefield 2042 beta players did enjoy though, was the game’s specialist characters. Players experimented with the character’s various special abilities, finding the specialist right for them. One such specialist is Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky, who will be available to play through the Engineer class. Pyotr is a Russian-born member of the No-Pats group and is somewhat shrouded in mystery. His specialist abilities, however, make Pyotr a good choice for the more attack-minded Battlefield player.

Battlefield 2042s Specialists

The Battlefield series traditionally has a four-class system, which allows the players to select their preferred playstyle ahead of time. The four classes are Support, Engineer, Recon, and Assault, and they dictate what weapons the players can use, as well as the actions they’re able to undertake in-game. For example, only a Support player can heal and revive fallen teammates, while an Engineer can fix vehicles. Battlefield has become famed for its class system, although it is far from the only shooter to have such a system. Apex Legends has a very similar class system, while they can also be commonly found in objective shooters like Overwatch.

In the case of Overwatch, the class-based system is slightly more in-depth with multiple operators to choose from. Each of these operators has their own unique abilities, which makes picking the right operator crucial. While Battlefield 2042 doesn’t offer the variety of Overwatch’s heroes, it does have a system that more closely resembles Overwatch than previous Battlefield games. Battlefield 2042 will have four specialists that each has their own special abilities. These abilities range from deployable machinery such as recon drones to grappling hooks and syringe-loaded guns. These specialists will hopefully further differentiate Battlefield’s classes from one another, giving players a real decision to make. Along with the different specialist abilities though, these operators each have their own character and backstory in a similar way to Rainbow Six Siege’s operators.

Who is Battlefield 2042s Pyotr ‘Boris’ Guskovsky

Battlefield 2042 has four different specialists, one per class although more are set to be announced soon. For the time being though, fans will be eager to learn of the stories of each character, and some backstory is already given. In the case of Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky, he is a Russian-born engineer and a member of the No-Pats. The No-Pats, which is the shortened version of Non-Patriated, are a group of refugees displaced from their homelands “fighting not for the country, but survival." As such, in the world of Battlefield 2042, the No-Pats are made out to be the villains. However, in The Journey of The No-Pats, it is made clear that this is not really the case.

In section one of The Journey of The No-Pats, Escape From Doha, Pyotr is described as “A fiftyish military man” “whose relaxed demeanor is off-putting." This sentiment about Pyotr’s demeanor is echoed on the Battlefield website, where it is written that Pyotr’s “attachment to the team is suspect." It’s made clear that while Pyotr is fighting on the good side, it may be more through convenience than morality. Regardless, the No-Pats are glad to have him on their side as Pyotr is a Battlefield 2042 specialist that is very experienced and skilled with weaponry. Despite some doubts over the strength of his allegiance to the No-Pats, Pyotr is trusted to get the job done, which is a testament to his quality in the field.

Pyotr ‘Boris’ Guskovsky’s Specialist Abilities

As well as a backstory outlining his character, Pyotr is afforded a useful bit of kit to differentiate him from other specialists. As Pyotr is a specialist of the Engineer class, it makes sense that players would be offered some form of a mechanical kit, and that’s exactly what they get. When playing as Pyotr, players will be able to deploy an unmanned sentry turret to help thin the crowd of enemy players. Players who are targeted by Pyotr’s sentry turret will also be spotted when they’re locked on to, which will give them a red outline. These will be useful abilities to have in Battlefield 2042, but players will have a decision to make, as each of the three other specialists also has their own special abilities.

The remaining Battlefield 2042 specialists belong to the Support, Recon, and Assault classes and their specialist abilities reflect this. Maria Falck, Battlefield 2042s Support specialist has a Syrette Pistol, which fires syringes to heal teammates or deal some damage to enemies. Along with Maria’s specialist ability though, the players are also offered a trait in Combat Surgeon, which allows the players to not only revive fallen teammates but restore them to full health. The other more defensive specialist is Wilkus “Casper” Van Daele, who affords players an OV-P Recon Drone that can spot enemies, direct lock-on weaponry, and deliver EMP blasts. “Casper” also has a movement sensor to alert the player while in combat, or while directing their drone of nearby enemies.

These abilities will be of great interest to the more team-centered Battlefield player, but the remaining specialist may have something more in line with fans of Pyotr Guskovsky’s abilities. Webster Mackay is the Assault specialist and offers fans a Grappling Hook, which has already been used by fans to grapple onto Battlefield 2042's rocket and travel to the upper limits of the world map. Aside from that, Webster also has the Nimble trait, which allows players to move quickly while aiming down sight. Players have a lot of choices to make in Battlefield 2042, but picking their specialist may be the toughest. For fans of deployable sentry turrets and mysterious Russian-born engineers though, Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky is the obvious choice.

Battlefield 2042 releases on November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
