Battlefield 2042, one game available to PlayStation Plus members as a free monthly title, has seen a massive increase in its player count after being offered as a part of the service. PS Plus members across all of its tiers get around three games for free every month, and users retain access to these titles for as long as they are subscribed to the service.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can play Battlefield 2042, Code Vein, and Minecraft Dungeons this month at no extra cost, with users having until April 3 to add them to their accounts. Battlefield 2042 is probably the biggest game on this list, while also being the most controversial title from March’s PS Plus offerings. Now, new data confirms that one of these three titles has seen a massive increase in its player count since being offered to PS Plus users as a free monthly game.

As revealed by TrueTrophies, Battlefield 2042 saw over 500% more players on PS5 and PS4 in the first week of its addition to PS Plus. The final number is just under 600%, as Battlefield 2042 gained 578% more players after being offered as a free monthly game to PS Plus subscribers. According to TrueTrophies, Battlefield 2042 is now among the top 5 most played games on PS5 and PS4, beating the likes of GTA 5, Destiny 2, Apex Legends, and more. It should be noted that this data is based on three million active PlayStation accounts, so it may not reveal full details about a game’s performance.

Despite Battlefield 2042’s rocky reception at launch, it’s still the latest entry in a popular franchise. So, players who were interested in Battlefield 2042, but didn’t play it due to the poor critical and fan reception, may have wanted to give it a shot.

Developer DICE has been releasing updates to Battlefield 2042 that fix bugs, add more content, and introduce fan-requested features since its release in 2021. Update 4.0.1 for Battlefield 2042 is now live on all platforms, with the aim of fixing some quality-of-life issues and making more balance changes to the game.

Aside from the three games available to PS Plus users, members in the Extra and Premium tiers will get access to even more titles on March 21 as Sony updates the catalog. This PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup includes games like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Tchia as a day one release among others.
