A Baldur’s Gate 3 player recently recreated several iconic World of Warcraft characters using the in-game character creator. These World of Warcraft heroes are instantly recognizable, proving just how excellent the character creator in Baldur’s Gate 3 is.
Larian Studios' new CRPG has quickly become one of the most popular games of the year. Though many aspects of Baldur’s Gate 3 have been widely celebrated, its character creator has been a highlight for many, with players having spent over 88 years designing avatars in the first weekend alone.
Now, Reddit user and Baldur’s Gate 3 player Itsallcakes has used the character creator to make several iconic characters from World of Warcraft. The images only show the characters’ faces, and don’t show them in armor or as particular classes, but are otherwise near-perfect likenesses of the heroes and villains as they appear in WoW, down to the hair, eyes, and tattoos.
Here are the World of Warcraft characters Itsallcakes made in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Garrosh Hellscream, former Warchief of the Horde, as a Half-Orc.
- Illidan, one of World of Warcraft's Stormrage twins, as a Tiefling.
- Varian Wrynn, late king of Stormwind, as a Human.
- Tyrande Whisperwind, High Priestess of the Night Elves, as an Elf.
- Arthas Menethil, the fallen prince of Lordaeron and future Lich King, as a Human.
- Sylvanas Windrunner, ex-Ranger-General, Banshee Queen, and Warchief, Banshee Queen, as a Half-Elf.
Fans of both Baldur’s Gate 3 and World of Warcraft got a kick out of Itsallcakes’ custom characters. Many immediately went about trying to figure out the best builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 to replicate the powers they use in WoW. Others had the same idea as Itsallcakes and shared their own Baldur’s Gate 3 versions of their favorite World of Warcraft characters. In addition, some couldn’t help but notice that Arthas looked like famous actor and WoW fan Henry Cavil, whom many wished to see play the fallen Paladin after his depiction of Geralt in The Witcher.
World of Warcraft is not the first universe to appear in Baldur’s Gate 3 thanks to the character creator, nor will it be the last. Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have remade Keyleth from The Legend of Vox Machina and Critical Role, Doric from Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and even Papa Smurf so far. The impressive character creator in Baldur’s Gate 3 has plenty of options for players to make the perfect avatar, be they an original creation or one from their favorite media.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
