Each week Google releases an update on the Stadia Community Blog about new games and events that are coming to the recently launched platform. This week, the company might have accidentally let slip the release window of Larian Studios’ upcoming single-player RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.

In the weekly update, the Google Stadia team began its announcement by listing a few of the games that would be coming to the streaming service this year: DOOM Eternal, Get Packed, Orcs Must Die! 3, and Baldur’s Gate 3. This is noteworthy because up to this point, there has been no announced release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 and even the game’s Steam page still lists the launch date as “to be announced.”

Fans shouldn't get too excited by this news yet though. One day following Google’s weekly update, a representative from Larian Studios clarified that there has been no announced release date for the game and the inclusion of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Google’s list was a mistake. It’s worth noting, however, that the representative did not deny the accuracy of the stated release year but only reiterated that it hadn’t yet been announced.

If the slip from Google is correct, fans of the Baldur’s Gate series have reason to rejoice. Developed by Bioware and published by Interplay Entertainment, Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn was released in September 2000 to mutual critical acclaim and praise from players, and its expansion pack Throne of Bhaal released the following year. Today, the Metacritic user score for Shadows of Amn sits at 9.2, ranking it among the site’s top player-rated PC games of all time. So it would be serendipitous if Larian Studios managed to release Baldur’s Gate 3 on the 20th anniversary of that celebrated game.

Either way, at the end of January, Larian Studios teased on Twitter that an update about Baldur’s Gate 3 could be expected on February 27, 2020. Is that news likely to be a release date? Given the coincidental timing of Google’s statement and the imminent announcement from the developer, it wouldn’t be surprising.

To date, very little has been revealed about the upcoming third title in the Baldur’s Gate series. Other than an enticing official trailer and a community update video, both released in June 2019, almost nothing is known about the game besides the fact that it involves Dungeons & Dragons’ illithids, or mind flayers, and takes place in Faerun.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available on PC and Google Stadia, but does not yet have an official release date.
