Baldur's Gate 3 has unveiled a new trailer at The Game Awards, featuring the return of the fan favorite ranger Minsc, as well as confirming the release window for the game. Developed by Larian Studios after the staggering success of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur's Gate 3 represents more than just the director successor to BioWare's iconic Baldur's Gate games. It is the biggest project the developers at Larian Studios have ever attempted, as Baldur's Gate 3 seeks to adapt the Fifth Edition of Dungeons and Dragons into a seamless video game experience without losing its tabletop charm.

Continuing in the footsteps of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios has offered players a hands-on experience for any who have preordered the game through the Early Access of Baldur's Gate 3. This version featured roughly a half of the total companions from the full game, as well as half of its Act 1, allowing players to try out the Fifth Edition gameplay and branching story paths that Baldur's Gate 3 promises to deliver. If early impressions are worth anything, Larian Studios is well on track to meet the daunting expectations ahead.

Baldur's Gate fans need not wait long for the full game to come out, as Larian Studios has revealed that Baldur's Gate 3 will be releasing in August 2023. The announcement was accompanied by a story trailer featuring the game's gorgeous visuals, as well as confirming the return of a fan favorite character in Baldur's Gate 3.

Minsc crawling out of a mimic with brute force is exactly the kind of entrance this legendary ranger demands, as he will effectively become the only Baldur's Gate companion to feature in all three games. Overshadowed by his return is the stunning recreation of the city of Baldur's Gate, first seen in December 1998, and now beautifully adapted into a thriving metropolis. The city's landmarks such as Ramazith's Tower, the Ducal Palace, and even Sorcerous Sundries are all featured in the trailer.

The Early Access for Baldur's Gate 3 recently added Bard as a class, as well as allowing players to create a Gnome. Though it remains to be seen if it will feature another update before the game launches in August. Baldur's Gate fans who can't wait that long and are desperate for a hands-on preview will certainly enjoy at least one playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, even in its temporarily reduced state. Though Larian Studios has an unfortunate habit of rushing the final chapters of its games, the current verdict seems to be that the tremendous legacy of Baldur's Gate is in good hands.

Baldur's Gate 3 is releasing in August 2023 on PC.
