A Baldur’s Gate 3 fan has recently created an interesting chart detailing the Pokemon teams that all the companions in Larian Studios’ RPG would have if they existed in the same universe. It’s an interesting crossover between two popular franchises, giving Baldur’s Gate 3 fans a fun insight into how these characters could potentially behave in another universe.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was among the biggest hits of 2023. Not only did the game receive several awards and excellent reviews during the year, but Baldur’s Gate 3 also sold over 10 million copies, becoming Larian Studios’ best-seller.

Baldur's Gate 3 Makes a Great Argument for Reviving an Old Dungeons and Dragons Class

Baldur's Gate 3 has catapulted an already popular monster into greater fame, one that could inspire the revival of a forgotten class.

Now, a BG3 fan decided to imagine the possible Pokemon teams of all the companions available in the game. In the chart, each team member received a group of six different Pokemon, which were supposed to match well with their personalities and fighting styles. While all fan creations such as this one are likely to spark fierce debate among fans of the franchises they involve, it’s possible to say that these are faithful picks. For instance, one of the best Baldur’s Gate 3 companions, the tiefling barbarian Karlach, has a team that consists of mostly Fire and Fighting-type creatures, including Arcanine, Magby, Machamp, Incinearoar, Talonflame, and Haxorus.

The popular vampire rogue Astarion, for example, focuses more on Poison, Dark and Ghost-type creatures, which is a good fit. His team includes Crobat, Gengar, Froslass, Mightyena, Malamar, and Hydreigon. Another character with a team that is faithful to their concept is the elf druid Jaheira, who has a team of Pokemon inspired by plants and animals, such as Decidueye, Liepard, Roserade, Volcarona, Trevenant, and Florges.

Curiously, this is not the first time a fan made an unofficial crossover between Baldur’s Gate and Pokemon. A while ago, a fan created an image inspired by the first Pokemon games using an interface inspired by Baldur’s Gate. It was a neat fan work that showcased how interesting it can be to combine elements from these two famous franchises.

Unfortunately for Baldur’s Gate fans, though, the franchise will not likely ever receive frequent releases like Pokemon. Baldur’s Gate 2 came out in 2000, with its official sequel only officially being released 23 years later. To make matters even worse, Larian recently confirmed that it will not develop a sequel for Baldur’s Gate 3, nor a DLC, which is certainly very disappointing news for the fans of the D&D-inspired franchise.
