Larian Studios has confirmed that Patch 3 for Baldur's Gate 3 has been delayed, but only for a day. Patch 3 might be the most robust update for Baldur's Gate 3 since launch, potentially delivering planned improvements to the RPG's third act, performance upgrades, restored cut content, and more. However, Patch 3 needs just a bit longer for Larian to continue testing it. Whether plans for Patch 3's content will be changed or not remains to be seen.

Baldur's Gate 3 has received widespread acclaim since its PC launch in early August. That's despite what's primarily been criticized as poor overall performance in the game's third act and several storylines concluding awkwardly due to content Larian has acknowledged may have been cut too severely. While what's included in Patch 3 has not been officially confirmed, Larian has hinted that the update could resolve some of these criticisms.

Unfortunately, Baldur's Gate 3 players will have to wait a short while longer than expected for Patch 3's arrival. Larian announced on social media on Thursday morning that Patch 3 had been delayed. The delay will only be for one day, luckily. Still, it's a wait that Baldur's Gate 3 players likely weren't expecting. Patch 3 for Baldur's Gate 3 will now arrive on Friday, September 22 instead.

As for why Larian delayed the release of Patch 3, the Baldur's Gate 3 developer said it's to "ensure thorough testing." More specific details were not provided, but a delay of just one day is interesting. One day isn't long enough to make substantial changes to a patch, and Larian's previously promised no update will go through that hasn't been thoroughly tested. As such, the problem is either very small or large enough that Larian is removing something from Patch 3 in order to work on it longer and release it later.

No further details were provided regarding what kind of content will be included in Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 3, and this kind of issue is a good example of why. If Larian is adjusting the content in the patch, it doesn't need to readjust player expectations to do so. All that's 100% confirmed for Patch 3 is Baldur's Gate 3's launch on Mac, which still appears to be the plan.

Part of what has made Larian Studios so beloved among RPG fans is its dedication to gathering player feedback and delivering routine updates. A delay of 24 hours for Patch 3 is frustrating, but it's also exactly what fans expect of Larian. Larian will do what it needs to in order to make Patch 3 as robust as it can, it will communicate any issues as it's able, and then it will respond to feedback for the update in the days and weeks ahead. Patch 3 is scheduled to arrive on Friday, and Baldur's Gate 3 players will hopefully remain just as excited as they would have been if it arrived Thursday as planned.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and PS5.
