Highlights

  • Baldur's Gate 3 players face the challenge of missing out on secrets and content due to the game's massive world, but a new mod improves exploration by highlighting all interactable objects on the screen.
  • The mod allows players to easily identify and interact with hidden objects without the need to painstakingly search every inch of the map, making it particularly appealing to completionist players.
  • While it's unclear whether the lack of a full highlighting feature in the vanilla game was intentional or an oversight, the mod provides a solution for players who want to thoroughly explore each area and not miss any important items or secrets.

A Baldur's Gate 3 player has created a new mod to help their fellow fans explore and find secrets while they're out adventuring. Larian Studios' new RPG has blown away gamers with its massive world and deep story full of drama, excitement, and secrets. It may require as many as 18 playthroughs to see everything in Baldur's Gate 3 with just one character according to the developers, and that assumes a player is being thorough in their search for content. Given how much there is to do, it's unlikely many fans will ever uncover it all.

While few will ever see everything, it's still important for gamers to remain vigilant while traveling through the wilderness. Leaving areas unexplored is among the mistakes that can ruin a Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough, and failing to notice things to do in a given area is almost as bad. As such, players will want to be diligent in finding everything around them that they can pick up or interact with. Now, a new mod should make this much easier.

A gamer, going by shalzuth on Nexus Mods, has released a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 that improves exploration by highlighting all objects on the screen that can be interacted with. Like many top-down RPGs, it's possible in Baldur's Gate 3 to cause things like chests and doors to light up by pressing a given button. While, by default, this feature will only target specific types of objects, this mod will allow players to identify absolutely everything that can be clicked on.

With this mod installed, fans won't need to slowly move the pointer all over the map, looking for anything that may highlight, to find all the secret objects that can be used in some way. Now, a single button press will show them everything. Completionist players, in particular, will likely love this feature, and pretty much all gamers should see some benefit from it. This could very well join the list of the best mods in Baldur's Gate 3.

It's somewhat strange that a mod was needed to add this feature at all. Recent titles like Diablo 4 and the Pathfinder games allow players to highlight everything that can be picked up or used on the screen without limitations. It's unclear if this is a deliberate choice by Larian to force fans to look more carefully for secrets or if it's simply an oversight. The developer is still releasing patches and, just recently, Larian issued an emergency update for Baldur's Gate 3. It's possible fans may see an official change to the highlighting command in the future.

Fortunately, whether Larian ever changes this or not, the mod from shalzuth will allow gamers to diligently scan every area they enter without fear that they'll be missing something important. Anyone that worries about walking past a secret lever or hidden entrance will want to grab this mod as soon as possible.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and will release for PS5 on September 6. An Xbox Series X/S version is also in development.
