One inventive Baldur's Gate 3 fan has taken the idea of playing as a Bard to another level by starting an in-game band. This feat of creativity serves as yet another example of the immense role-playing potential of Baldur's Gate 3.
Larian Studios' latest RPG allows players to choose between 12 classes for their characters, each of them offering drastically different gameplay in terms of combat and the ability to pass various skill checks. Anyone not willing to commit to a single such character archetype can also take advantage of the Baldur's Gate 3 multiclassing feature for even more distinct builds.
And while many Baldur's Gate 3 players who decide to multiclass do so with the goal of expanding their options in combat, the functionality also allows for some truly unadulterated shenanigans. This was recently illustrated by Reddit user SonaKopa, who decided to make everyone in their party a level one Bard in order to start an in-game band. They then equipped Lae'zel with a drum, Astarion with a violin, Shadowheart with a harp, and their own Tav with a flute, before having them all enact the Bard Dance, one of the three songs that can be played by utilizing the Perform class action.
As demonstrated by SonaKopa's gameplay footage of this merry event, ordering multiple Bards in Baldur's Gate 3 to play the same song will see them automatically sync up with one another, thus immediately delivering a harmonious performance. A Bard's melody will also replace whatever in-game track is currently playing, with that effect persisting throughout cutscenes which weren't initiated by the performer. Since Perform is a free class action, Baldur's Gate 3 players with a Bard in their party essentially always have the option of picking their own battle soundtrack.
Players who aren't keen on multiclassing their party members as Bards but are still intrigued by the prospect of starting an in-game band can also achieve the same result by picking the Performer feat for their characters, which will grant them musical instrument proficiency and raise their Charisma by one point. New feats in Baldur's Gate 3 are available every four levels.
The ability to start an in-game traveling band is far from the only reason to play a Bard in Baldur's Gate 3. This jolly class allows players to easily pass Charisma checks, while also providing them with a wide variety of useful support skills, including some of the most powerful combat (de)buffs in the entire game.
Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC. A PS5 version releases on September 6, and an Xbox Series X/S version is expected to launch in late 2023.
