How to Tell which Moves need Recharging in Baldur’s Gate 3

Wyll in BG3

To understand how to recharge moves, you should first know which attacks need recharging.

There are a total of 4 different types of actions: Action, Bonus Action, Spell Slots, and Cantrips. Out of all these types, only Spell Slots and Action Surge require recharging in order to be used again, as the rest are recharged every turn in battle.

Classes that use Spell Slots include Warlocks, Clerics, and Sorcerers, and Action Surge is only available for Fighters. The higher the level, the more spell slots are available. Warlocks also have a special type of Spell Slots that are easier to recharge.

How to Recharge Attacks in Baldur’s Gate 3

Shadowheart having a long rest in BG3

Here are all the types of Spell Slots and how to recharge them:

  • Regular Spell Slots. To recharge regular Spell Slots as a Sorcerer or a Cleric, you need to take a long rest. To perform a long rest, click and hold on the campfire icon on the right side of the user interface and pick the second option in the context menu. Keep in mind that you need to be in a camp and have enough camp materials to take long rests.
  • Warlock Spell Slots. To recharge these, all you have to do is perform a short rest, which is way less of a hassle than a long rest. To do a short rest, press and hold the campfire icon on the right side of your UI and pick the first option in the context menu.
  • Action Surge. You can use long and short rests if you need to recharge an Action Surge for battle. Refer to the bullet points above to learn how to use them.

Some more class-specific abilities may need recharging, but the method for recharging them is shown in the description of those abilities.
