Along your journey through the story of Baldur's Gate 3, you will stumble across a variety of different items that can improve the builds of your Tav and companions. These items are spread out through several different categories, such as weapons, armor, boots, gloves, and amulets.

Among the various amulets to be discovered in Baldur's Gate 3, is the Moondrop Pendant. This is one of the best amulets that can be acquired early on in the game, which also has the potential to remain highly beneficial and effective right to the endgame. For this reason, the Moondrop Pendant is more than worth taking the time to obtain.

How to Get the Moondrop Pendant in Baldur's Gate 3

The Moondrop Pendant is thankfully obtainable from the very early stages of Baldur's Gate 3, making it one of the best items to acquire during Act 1. You can obtain this item after completing the battle against the Goblins outside the gates of Emerald Grove, either after heading inside and speaking to everyone, or before, as obtaining the Moondrop Pendant is a minor task and won't have any effect on, or trigger important cutscenes that progress the story the story.

To acquire the Moondrop Pendant, you will need to find the Owlbear Cave and head inside. The Owlbear Cave can be found in the forest, a short walk from Emerald Grove. In case you're struggling to find this location, then feel free to refer to the map screenshot below, where it has been pointed out by the character markers.

Once you enter the Owlbear Cave, you will need to keep in mind that there is a giant Owlbear and her cub inside. If you walk the wrong way or choose to initiate combat, then you can end up having to fight these creatures. While this can be done as a way to later acquire the Owlbear Cub as a camp pet, you don't need to worry about this encounter for now, and can even avoid it while still being able to gain the Moondrop Pendant. To do this, enter the cave and take the first left. You can now climb down a cliff face and land on the ground below, where a blue, glowing Gilded Chest can be found.

Do not click on the Gilded Chest, as doing so or attempting to open it through any normal means will result in you taking damage. Instead, you will need to discover a hidden prayer to unlock it. To do this, turn to your left, and jump across the gap to the side with the Selune statue. It's a good idea to do this with the entire party, just in case the first character fails the check needed to identify the hidden prayer sheet.

After identifying the prayer, pick it up, and jump back across to the Gilded Chest. Now, with any character other than Shadowheart, open your inventory and right-click the prayer to read it. Doing so will unlock the Gilded Chest, which will now enable you to open it up and grab your loot.

However, as you open it up, Shadowheart will try to talk you out of doing so. To be successful in opening the Gilded Chest, you will need to undergo your choice of several different checks to ensure Shadowheart that the action is a good idea. After succeeding in this check, you can finally open the chest and add the items to your inventory, which will enable you to equip the Moondroop Pendant with a character of your choice.

  • Writhing Dance: When the wearer has 50% hit points or less, they don't provoke Opportunity Attacks.

Writhing Dance is such a powerful ability to carry into combat, and can further enhance some of the best character builds for battle, as it essentially operates as the Mobile Feat, but without the need for actually taking this Feat. Equipping the Moondrop Pendant on one of your best melee combatants in Baldur's Gate 3 will enable them to zip around the map and deal damage to multiple enemies in a turn without needing to worry about the threat of taking damage through opportunity attacks.

Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get Charge-Bound Warhammer

The Charge-Bound Warhammer is one of several specialty weapons in Baldur's Gate 3, fitting nicely in the Eldritch Knight or Warlock Class.

While the idea of equipping this to a character such as the Rogue may be tempting, this Class can already use Disengage via a Bonus Cunning Action, so they're not as hard done by through rules of Opportunity Attacks due to having an available escape option each round. Keeping this in mind, the best character choices that you can equip the Moondrop Pendant with are characters that are limited by a lack of Disengage or free movement, yet tend to thrive at close melee range. Some considerable options to choose from are listed below:

  • Fighter: Fighters are a devastating Class in the melee range, especially as they gain more Attacks and Feats than others. With the use of Great Weapon Master, Fighters can live in the melee range to dish out heavy damage each round. This equals up to three attacks per turn, not counting Action Surge and Bonus Actions. With the Moondrop Pendant, Fighters will have even more freedom to roam the battlefield and continue dishing out damage to multiple targets, making them even more efficient.
  • Barbarian: Barbarians have some of the best mobility in the game, which means the effects of the Moondrop Pendant are even more efficient in combat for this Class. On top of this, through Rage and Reckless Attack, Barbarians often have to tank as much incoming damage, which means that they will often trigger the 50% heal status that is needed to activate the Moondrop Pendant's Writhing Dance buff.
  • Paladin: Paladins are brilliant melee characters that can both dish out damage and defend allies from incoming attacks from the enemy through Feats such as Sentinel and Polearm Master. Because of this, they often become the tank of your party composition, which means they'll be taking a lot of damage whilst remaining on the frontline. The Moondrop Pendant enhances their strongest skills by giving them better movement without the need to disengage, which pairs exceptionally well if you take Polearm Master and Sentinel for extra reach and Opportunity Attack options.
  • Monk: Monks can be built on DEX or STR, but a good Strength-based Monk can highly benefit from the Moondrop Pendant, as these characters will need to remain in, or dash in and out of melee range to deliver Unarmed Strikes and Flurry of Blows. The damage output of these strikes can be significantly improved with the Tavern Brawler Feat, and as Monks aren't usually as bulky as the likes of Paladins, or Fighters, they will likely take more damage while remaining in melee range - therefore proccing the Writhing Dance buff.
