In the old RPG Fable, the protagonist starts the game with the ignoble title of "Chicken Chaser." In Baldur's Gate 3, players must earn this "grand" title by beating a special game in the goblin camp near the druid grove.

Starting this unusual side quest in Baldur's Gate 3 is easy enough: simply head to the west end of the camp and look for a female goblin named Krolla. However, beating this little game is a lot harder than most players might expect.

How to Chase a Chicken

Baldurs Gate 3 Chicken Chaser Course

First, players must speak to Krolla and offer to play the game. The party can wager 30 gold, 300 gold, or no gold on the outcome. Next, players must send the party member who spoke to Krolla to stand on the circle near the entrance to the obstacle course. The party member must be alone to play this game, and so Baldur's Gate 3 will automatically ungroup the character.

Once the game begins, players have 10 rounds (one minute) to chase the chicken over to the torches on the west side of the course. The chicken will usually run away from the party member, but the direction it takes is random. Players can throw the boxes and barrels in the course to block paths and limit the chicken's choices, but sometimes the chicken will climb over obstacles and squeeze through gaps a human couldn't.

The chicken will sometimes run through the entrance to the obstacle course and escape into the rest of the camp, so players should always block the way out first. Aside from that, players can create a direct path through the course by moving the obstacles around, but keep the time limit in mind because running out of time is all too easy.

How to Cheat at Chasing Chickens

Baldurs Gate 3 Chicken Chaser Krolla

Players can explore the chicken chasing obstacle course before ever speaking to Krolla, and one option is to move all the boxes and barrels around even before the game starts. All the containers are red, which means the goblins don't like it when players move them, but none of them are around to get angry.

However, there's one big flaw with this method. While goblins aren't around at first, they show up when the chicken chasing game begins, and Krolla will go around moving everything back where it belongs during the game. Players who choose this strategy should be aware of this extra timer, or else they should move a bunch of containers close to the entrance. This will keep Krolla too busy fixing those to interfere with the course.

Regardless of the player's choices, there's one more bit of cheating at the end. If players win the game and ask for their winnings, Krolla will claim that only a goblin can actually win. Players can then Intimidate or Persuade her for their money against a DC of 15, or they can use Illithid mind control to demand their money by beating a much smaller number. Either way, once players successfully become a chicken chaser, this minigame is complete.
