As players explore the first act of Baldur's Gate 3, they may hear their party members mention something about a masterwork weapon when exploring the Blighted Village near the Druids' grove. This is more than just idle banter, as there really is a masterwork weapon in the village — it just hasn't been created yet.

This mysterious weapon can be crafted by players themselves. However, it'll take some time before this becomes possible, and it'll only work if players find the right things and go to the right places. Here's how to finish the masterwork weapon in Baldur's Gate 3.

Finishing the Masterwork Weapon

Highcliff's Journal location in Baldur's Gate 3

This is technically a side quest that will only be listed once players read Highcliff's Journal, a book hiding in plain sight in one of the ruined houses of the Blighted Village. This house is the one closest to the sleeping Bugbear near the barn. To make getting this book easier, PC players can highlight all loot in an area by pressing ALT.

According to the journal, the weapon is missing an important ingredient: the bark of a Sussur tree. Unfortunately, the only way to get this is by going to the Underdark, a massive cave system right below the Sword Coast. Players can reach this through multiple ways, though taking the route via the Goblin Camp is highly recommended.

The Underdark is best explored with a party of Level 4 Adventurers. Once players do reach this area, head to the western side of the map, where a giant Sussur tree can be found, indicated by the enormous roots and the magical blue glow around the area.

There will be a few Hook Horrors around this location, and failing to take one out fast enough will cause it to call for backup. Find a way through all of these monsters and climb up the tree's branches. Move toward the middle of the tree to see a portion of the tree's bark that can be harvested. Grab that, and head back to the Blighted Village.

Back at the blacksmith's house, use a fire attack to burn the thick webs covering the hole in the floor. Then, jump down to enter the basement. Inside will be a booby-trapped chest containing Highcliff's Blueprints. Grab the blueprints and interact with the furnace on the opposite side of the room to ignite it. Then, stoke the flames using the bellows.

Interact with the furnace again to open a combination window. Place the Sussur bark into the empty slot and press Combine to turn the flames blue. Afterward, insert either a common greatsword, sickle, or dagger into the slot, and forge the weapon. Doing so will yield a Sussur-infused version of the weapon players threw into the blue flames. This will have a +1 Enchantment level and the innate ability to Silence targets on successful hits.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC, with a PS5 version coming soon.
