Larian Studios’ long-anticipated Dungeons & Dragons-based role-playing gameBaldur’s Gate 3 is now out in early access, and it’s indisputable that the studio’s contribution to the well-beloved franchise has a lot to live up to.

The game features a massive map filled with quests that promise many hours of fantasy RPG adventures for fans of the series. However, before gathering their party and venturing forth, new Baldur’s Gate 3 players may want to take a moment to read the game’s EULA. Not to get confused by legal mumbo jumbo or to overcome a bout of insomnia, but rather to find a well-hidden quest that can be easily missed.

Upon reading through the game’s full EULA, at the very bottom, players will come across a secret pact, upon acceptance of which they will be required to submit a “chant, song, text, poem or interpretive dance performed by you and extolling your interest in the Forgotten Realms.” Upon submission of this performance arts creation, players will gain entry into Larian Studio’s exclusive Guild of the Great Genius.

What exactly does this mean and what are the murky rewards granted for completing this quest? Baldur’s Gate 3 devotees who submit an entry will gain great fame, fortune and infamy as one of the Guild’s founding members. Submissions will also be forfeit and become the sole royalty-free property of Larian Studios to do with as it sees fit, including sharing said songs, poems and dances to the development company’s various social media channels.

For players interested in becoming a member of the elite Guild of the Great Genius, this quest must be completed within the first three winters following acceptance of the pact. Dilly dallying and bouts of creator’s block will result in the forfeiture of entry into the guild and the loss of all potential fame and infamy associated therewith.

In addition to sneaking a quest into Baldur’s Gate 3’s legal agreement, where everybody would undoubtedly be certain to see it, developer Larian Studios added the stipulation that players not strike up deals with any fey, infernal or eldritch creatures. For some gamers, that condition admittedly might be considered a deal breaker. For others, it’s kind of common sense.

Baldur’s Gate 3 launched in early access just a few days ago and has already wracked up a mass of positive reviews and feedback. Although some players have found the opening hours of the game to be a bit shallow and have decided to shelve their foray into the Underdark until the game’s full release, according to most feedback, the game really opens up and comes into its own after about 20 hours of playtime, which in the world of role-playing games can still technically be considered a prologue.

Baldur’s Gate 3 launched in early access on October 6, 2020, for Steam on PC.
