Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive open world RPG heavily inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. The gameplay is flexible enough to allow for multiple solutions to one problem. This can be through simple dialogue choices or by straying off the beaten path. Act 3 is when your party finally arrives at the titular city of Baldur's Gate, and it is much bigger than the previous acts' areas. It can be overwhelming at first and there are secrets hidden around every corner.

There is also a large sewer area below the city. If you've been tasked with finding Minsc in the sewers, there are multiple entrances. The unassuming Gardener's Basement allows you to skip straight to him while avoiding a more complicated puzzle. Here is where you can find the Gardener's Basement and the solution to its puzzle. This shortcut can come in handy if you just want to get to the potential new party member located deep in the sewers.

Gardener's Basement Location

The Garderner's Basement is labeled on the map

The Gardener's Basement can be found to the east of The Lodge and to the north of the Steel Watcher Foundry. The exact coordinates are at (X:-251,Y-90.) The nearest fast travel point is at the Grey Harbor Docks beneath the area.

The door says "Keep Out"

Walk up into the small gardening area where a few NPCs are chatting nearby. The Gardener's Basement seems to be attached to Lady Jannath's Estate right to the north of it. Enter at the door labeled "Get Out."

Gardener's Basement Puzzle Solution

Astarion steps on a pressure plate

Step into the Gardener's Basement and you will find yourself in a rather unassuming room with some barrels/crates strewn about. If you explore the far right or left sides of the room, you will hear a soft clicking sound. Split a character off from your party and have them stand on the pressure plate on one side while you stand on the other side.

The door is open after activating both switches

Both switches will click and open the hidden sliding door in the center of the room. Walk carefully past the barrels and crates. There is a caustic brine trap waiting for you on the other side of them. Use the hatch at the end of the room to descend into the sewers.

Abandoned Cistern

The party has entered the Abandoned Cistern area

This hatch is the shortcut to the Abandoned Cistern area. Solving this puzzle allows you to bypass the entirety of the sewers. Minsc will be here with a group of enemies if you've already visited the Counting House's lower floors.
