The long awaited next installment in the D&D inspired role-playing game series, Baldur's Gate 3 sets the bar for authenticity in bringing the tabletop gaming experience to the PC. Though in true modder fashion, fans of Baldur's Gate 3 have already been hard at work making mods that bridge the worlds of Faerun and Tamriel with expanded character race options.

Even with Baldur's Gate 3 only in early access since October 6th, its modding community has already produced at least 40 different mods on Nexus Mods alone, with more ambitious projects surely in the works. Given this particular mod however, Modder NellsRelo has adapted a previous project adapting races of The Elder Scrolls for use in D&D 5E to work in the setting of Baldur's Gate 3 to an impressive level of efficacy.

The mod, Adventurer's Guide to Tamriel, adds nearly every race featured in The Elders Scrolls series, currently excluding the bestial races like Argonian and Khajiit due to early build limitations. With each race having mechanical stat distinctions and new racial abilities that make them unique from one another, every option entails a new playthrough experience giving the player plenty more to do, especially when waiting for Baldur's Gate 3's version 1.0. With the current early access campaign feeling short, extra options in the form of additional races to play as can help prevent early burnout as the game continues to develop and receive feedback.

An additional impressive detail sure to appeal to hardcore fans of The Elder Scrolls is the inclusion of several sub-species of each race, many referencing the varied locales of Tamriel familiar to perceptive fans. Alongside the human races like Bretons, Nords, Redguards, and even two different types of Cyrodillians, the mod includes Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, and Orsimer.

While no strangers to embracing the modding community, Larian Studios has historically been welcoming to new ideas and community involvement, as seen with the Divinity: Original Sin series. Its transparency and willingness to meet the demands of the fans has made Larian Studios a rightly beloved team, as reflected in Baldur's Gate 3's sales in early access alone. Fortunately, the same care that goes into creating their games is often reciprocated in their fan base through art, cosplay and mods.

With an epic campaign experienced planned, additional features, characters, weapons, spells, and more all slated to release along Baldur's Gate 3's development cycle, community involvement will continue to be important in crafting the most faithful adaptation of D&D 5E to the PC.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC, Mac, and Google Stadia.
