After dataminers claimed that large sections of Baldur's Gate 3 had been removed before launch, the game's director responded to dismiss the rumors a bit. The Baldur's Gate 3 campaign can already take gamers upwards of 100 hours (or more) to complete, and the various character classes and a story that heavily revolves around player choice lend the game to replayability.

It should come as no surprise, however, that fans are hoping to get their hands on even more content from one of the summer's biggest titles. The game isn't even out on consoles yet, and the team is already being asked about future content. In fact, Baldur's Gate 3 devs are having DLC discussions. Even with the promise of potential future content and countless replayability options, it appears as though there is some controversy as to whether publisher and developer Larian Studios has cut massive amounts of content from the game just prior to launch.

In an interview with IGN, Baldur's Gate 3 director Swen Vincke responded to claims from dataminers that major portions of the game were removed prior to launch, calling the information found through datamining "misleading." Vincke went on to state that while they did not remove "large swaths" of the game, "there were certain small things that [were] cut, but that's just part of re-scoping as you finish a game."

Dataminers pointed to the code and claimed that large portions of the Upper City had been removed just weeks before launch. The game's director responded directly to these reports and admitted that some of it had been cut, but stated that these "editorial decisions" were made to keep the section of the game from becoming boring and repetitive. Still, Vincke feels the idea that major changes being made to the game shortly before launch doesn't hold much merit, claiming "these games are too large to make big decisions like that and cut things two weeks before release." While this explanation certainly makes a lot of sense, it also isn't hard to see why players might be upset that one of the best modern-day CPRGs had any content cut.

Seeing as how Baldur's Gate 3 reviews are virtually glowing across the board, it certainly makes sense that fans are looking for even more. In fact, Vincke felt that the fact that players were looking for more content was actually a compliment. Still, with all the content that Larian Studios did pack into Baldur's Gate 3, it's hard to imagine anyone would feel that they didn't get their money's worth.

On top of all that, the team is still hard at work preparing for the launch of current-generation consoles later this year as well as a giant new update for Baldur's Gate 3, which the studio recently teased. Either way, it looks as though fans will have a lot to play in the months ahead.

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC. A PS5 version releases on September 6, and an Xbox Series X/S version is expected to launch in late 2023.
