Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios and director of Baldur’s Gate 3, just teased that Larian Studios is already working on its “next big game.” While players have no way of knowing what is in store for the indie studio that brought them Baldur’s Gate 3, they have every reason to get excited about it.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took the world by storm when it was released for PC in early August. The CRPG by Larian Studios took home seven Golden Joystick awards and is one of the six nominees for The Game Awards’ Game of the Year, not to mention its nominations in seven other categories at the show on December 7.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Series S Optimization Will Result in Performance Boost for Everybody

Larian offers an update on its Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Series S optimization efforts, which will seemingly also benefit Series X, PS5, and PC gamers.

On his personal Twitter, Vincke made a charming post sharing how honored he was that his “little niche RPG” and studio were nominated for so many awards, especially considering how big 2023 has been for gaming. However, he also hinted at something major on the horizon for Larian Studios in the form of its “next big game.” While he couldn’t reveal anything more about the game, his excitement was evident through his words. "I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries," he said.

The fact that Larian Studios is already working on a new game is pretty impressive. Its hit CRPG only released a few months ago and has been receiving regular updates and hotfixes over that time. Baldur’s Gate 3 is also coming to Xbox soon, so a whole new platform of players will have access to it. Even so, it seems Larian Studios has no intention of resting on its laurels yet.

It is possible the next title could be a sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2. While its previous CRPG didn’t reach the levels of popularity that Baldur’s Gate 3 has, most agree that D:OS2 walked so BG3 could run. That said, considering the reception to the genre, it seems likely that the next project will also be a turn-based RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3 was, regardless of the setting.

Of course, this doesn’t mean Larian Studios is giving up on Baldur’s Gate 3 already. The possibilities for an expansion pack or post-game DLC in Baldur’s Gate 3 are endless, and Larian Studios is already discussing these possibilities. Considering the game’s popularity and success, most agree that Larian Studios would be printing money by adding more content to the game. In the meantime, players can only speculate as to what will come next for Baldur’s Gate 3 and Larian Studios as a whole.
