After taking the industry by storm and becoming one of the biggest hits of the year, one Baldur's Gate 3 developer has confirmed that Larian Studios is discussing the possibility of adding DLC. Even before the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3 on consoles, potential future content has been a looming question for fans of the acclaimed Dungeons and Dragons-inspired game as they are excitedly looking ahead to what's next.

While Baldur's Gate 3 has fallen from the 10 highest-rated games of all time list, it still ranks highly among the best-reviewed titles ever made. The lengthy and detailed RPG has easily cemented itself in the conversation for the best games of the year; in fact, it may be the frontrunner. Still, before the dust settles on the acclaimed PC game, fans are clamoring to know when they can expect even more.

While at Gamescom, Larian Studios senior product manager Tom Butler told IGN that there have been conversations taking place about potential DLC for Baldur's Gate 3. Butler was specifically asked about future content for one of the best modern-day CPRGs and stated that the team is "genuinely [having] discussions." He did add the caveat that this would all take place after more patching and a much-needed holiday for the team. Not to mention, the developers are still hard at work on the respective console versions of the game.

The next priority for the team is likely the PS5 version, which is set to release on September 6, 2023. Baldur's Gate 3 is later slated to make its way to Xbox, but that isn't expected to take place until later in 2023. With the various new versions and patching that will inevitably occur, work on future content is likely still a little while off. As for what the DLC might actually be, Butler says only that he and the team, "want to do more. [They] don't know what yet."

Another Baldur's Gate 3 developer commented on possible DLC in an interview earlier this month, as it seems more content for one of the summer's most popular games is currently top of mind for many gamers. Still, with an estimated playthrough time of up to 100 hours, there should be no shortage of things to do. Not to mention, with all the different character classes, romance options, and decisions that greatly affect the story, Baldur's Gate 3 is begging to be played more than once.

While fans cannot wait to get their hands on even more Baldur's Gate 3, it's easy to commend the developer's commitment to improving the current version of the game. Yes, the RPG is widely regarded as a genre-defining hit, but there are still some essential Baldur's Gate 3 quality-of-life changes fans would love to see implemented.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available for PC and will launch on PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023. The Xbox Series X/S versions are expected to release before the end of the year.
