A future update for Baldur's Gate 3 will add crossplay to the game. Baldur's Gate 3 has been met with widespread critical acclaim since launch, but there's always room for improvement. Not content to rest on its laurels, Larian Studios has continued to update Baldur's Gate 3 since launch, addressing the game's bigger technical problems and squashing bugs.

Baldur's Gate 3 recently made its way to PlayStation 5, giving console gamers the chance to see what all the fuss was about. The PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 has been a resounding success, surpassing the Metacritic score of the PC release by one point and earning its spot as the highest-rated PS5 game so far. One of the main reasons why the game has earned such high marks is because of its co-op implementation, giving players the chance to play the game with friends both online and in split-screen.

One downside to Baldur's Gate 3 co-op is that it does not currently allow crossplay between PC and consoles, but that will change at some point down the line. Larian Studios' Michael Douse told Eurogamer that there are plans to add crossplay to Baldur's Gate 3 at some point down the line. Larian is hesitant on providing a date for the feature until it is sure that it's ready to be added, however.

Does Baldur's Gate 3 Have Crossplay?

  • Not yet, but it's coming in a future update

Whenever Baldur's Gate 3 crossplay is added to the game, PC gamers can expect to play with PS5 players and vice versa. And when the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 is out, those gamers will presumably get to play with their friends on PC and PS5 as well. As it stands, there's no firm release date for Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox, though hopefully more information on that front will come sooner rather than later.

While a specific release date still isn't available for the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3, fans do have a general idea of when to expect it. Baldur's Gate 3 will release on Xbox at some point between September and November. The best case scenario would obviously be that the game is out on Xbox this month, but fans shouldn't necessarily hold their breath about that happening.

Something to note about the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 is that the game's co-op options will differ a bit depending on if one is playing on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. Baldur's Gate 3 will not have split-screen co-op in the Xbox Series S version, at least at launch. It's been said that there is a chance split-screen co-op could be added to Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series S at a later date, though. Whether the crossplay update comes first remains to be seen.

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC and PS5 with an Xbox Series X version also in development.
