Baldur's Gate 3 has reached a new milestone on Steam, once again reaching new heights with its concurrent player total for the second weekend in a row. After fully launching on August 3, Baldur's Gate 3 surprised everyone by breaking into Steam's top 10 games based on their highest concurrent player totals. A week later and Baldur's Gate 3 has built on its staggering success, a rarity on Steam since most games peak immediately after launch.

After its launch on August 3, which was a Thursday, Baldur's Gate 3 saw daily increases in its concurrent player totals through Sunday, August 6. The peak it reached that day was 814,666, which launched Baldur's Gate 3 into Steam's top 10. It ranked 9th overall, above Goose Goose Duck but below 2023's Hogwarts Legacy.

Now Baldur's Gate 3 has had yet another impressive showing this past weekend. On Sunday, August 13, Baldur's Gate 3's concurrently player total peaked at 875,343. That's an increase of over 60,000 additional concurrent players or over 7%. A mostly single-player RPG like Baldur's Gate 3 maintaining such impressive concurrent player numbers but also increasing them is a rare and impressive feat.

Unfortunately, the increase in concurrent players was not enough to move Baldur's Gate 3 higher on Steam's list of the top 10 games. The new watermark for Baldur's Gate 3 falls just short of Hogwarts Legacy's 879,308 concurrent player peak with New World just beyond at 913,634. Baldur's Gate 3 will likely remain in the 9th position, barring an unexpected and unprecedented third week of growth.

There were hopes that Baldur's Gate 3 would reach an even greater number within the games community. Some even tried to organize an effort to all play at the same time, to try and bring the concurrent player total for Baldur's Gate 3 up to a million. While the community didn't reach that number, it should be very happy with what Baldur's Gate 3 did manage.

Larian Studios remains happy with Baldur's Gate 3's success. The development team wasn't sure if Baldur's Gate 3 had peaked in early access in not, saying that its incredible popularity "was not in the books at all." CEO Swen Vinke says that developers at Larian are "very happy" and that there are a lot of "smiling faces." Of course, Larian remains hard at work doing post-launch polish on Baldur's Gate 3. There's still the PlayStation 5 launch on September 6 to work toward, and Xbox after that.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC with a PS5 version dropping September 6. An Xbox version of the game is also in development.
