Baldur's Gate 3: 20 Best Spells

Baldur's Gate 3 has several different classes for players to choose from, with most being magic-based, meaning spells are very important.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is deserving of all its fanfare, even with the weirdness that lies within some decisions that players can make. Whilst players can make some decisions that alter the fates of themselves and their friends, some decisions can just be plain stupid, and clearly make no sense, whether intentional or otherwise.

6 Make Gale Explode

Instantly End The Game

Gale Baldurs Gate 3 magic

One choice that is simply stupid is to let Gale explode. Gale has a lengthy story behind him, and players should do well to listen to him and grow a relationship with him as a friend or even lover. If players neglect or kill Gale, they are risking the end of all things, as Gale is a literal ticking time bomb that can explode and cause a game-ending scene, every single time.

Gale should remain alive, for if Gale dies, then the game will end, his explosion is far too powerful to contain, and there is no way of stopping it. Gale’s importance cannot be understated, and if players do kill him, then a projection will stand by his body and let players know that reviving him is in everyone’s interest. Leaving him to rot just makes no sense at all.

5 Helping Wyll Kill Karlach

Lose A Valued Companion

Karlach and Wyll BG3

When players meet Wyll in the Emerald Grove, he tells the player of his task to kill a demon called Karlach. Yet, when players meet this devil, they might be surprised to see how friendly she actually is. Karlach is one of the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s a good idea to hear what this friendly devil has to say rather than initiating a fight straight away, as everyone will suffer.

The Best Ways To Earn Approval For Baldur's Gate 3's Late-Joining Companions

Here are the best choices Baldur's Gate 3 players can make to earn approval with late-joining members Halsin, Minthara, Jaheira, and Minsc.

It makes no sense to kill Karlach, as players will lose a companion and a party member for no reason at all other than the fact that they enjoy a good fight. Wyll and Karlach can even become good friends, even if that’s at the cost of Wyll becoming a devil, but that’s the price one pays for making a pact with Mizora.

4 Waking Up Withers

Withers Finds The Party Regardless

Withers is a skeletal mage in Baldur's Gate 3

One of the most mysterious characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, Withers can join the player camp after they find him in a Dank Crypt. However, Withers will also join the party even if they have not found him. So, it makes it a pretty pointless endeavor to go seek him out, and a choice that makes no sense when one thinks about it. After all, Withers is just going to pop up anyway, with no sense of allegiance or reason to do so.

Players have no need to go and venture out to look for their undead friend, as Withers will make his way to the party randomly. He is also unkillable, and unmovable, so players best get used to the smell of rotting flesh. However, it is worth it due to the fact that Withers can help respec players.

3 Being Cruel To Animals

Animals Can Lead To Valuables

kick the squirrel baldur's gate 3

Players will encounter a fair few animals and creatures in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some may seem rather innocent, and some may seem not so innocent. No matter the case, it’s probably not a good idea to fight an animal, even if it's one that has bitten the player. Whilst the option is there to kick squirrels into rocks and fight Owl Bears, they are best left alone, as it makes no sense to be cruel to animals, unless a Dark Urge character can’t help themselves.

Baldur's Gate 3: 18 Things To Do Before Going To Act 2

There is a lot to pack into Larian's RPG, but some stops are definitely worth making before progressing past the first act of Baldur's Gate 3.

Animals don’t just stand there menacingly, as players use Animal Speaking to talk to these animals and figure out what is going on. Players might be pleasantly surprised to converse with an animal and find a new quest or hint at some unobtainable treasure.

2 Not Eating Tadpoles

Tadpoles Unlock New Powers

bg3 illithid power consequences

Another choice that doesn’t make much sense is to reject the Illithid powers found in consuming tadpoles. Throughout the game, players are constantly tempted to eat them, and they can find many in their journey with their companions. Yet, there’s no real reason not to. There even comes a point in the game where players must decide whether or not to further enhance their Illithid potential and trying to resist is near impossible without sheer luck or save scum tactics.

It doesn’t make sense not to eat the tadpoles, as these Illithid parasites will give players more powers and properties to use, and it won’t have any impact on their story going forward. To reject these tadpoles is to reject an element of the game’s powers and mechanics.

1 Nettie Tries To Kill Tav

A Dwarf Druid Versus Four Illithids

wyvern toxin baldur's gate 3 nettie

One decision that actually comes from an NPC is that of Nettie, a healer in the Druid’s Grove who will say she might be able to help the player with their tadpole problem. However, Nettie actually wants to kill the player to stop the spread of Mind Flayers, unless the player promises to drink Wyvern toxins to kill themselves. If players refuse, Nettie will become hostile, and she is an underwhelming boss fight.

Yet, what was Nettie thinking? Firstly, she divulges her plan to her supposed victim, and then she decides that she can fight 4 people at once. It just seems stupid on Nettie’s part and a decision that made no sense. She could have at least called for some Druid backup.
