This Article Contains Spoilers For Baldur's Gate 3 Act OnePlayers can start Baldur’s Gate 3’s Blood of Lathander quest in multiple ways, some of which will unlock different outcomes for the quest. This quest can be found in the Mountains Pass region in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3, and it turns out to be an extremely rewarding and entertaining ordeal, so players should consider prioritizing this quest before progressing too far beyond Act One.

The reward for this quest also named the Blood of Lathander, is among some of the best weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. This weapon is a one-handed mace that deals Bludgeoning damage on normal attacks, with special skills that can deal massive Radiant damage or prevent the wielder from dying. While the weapon itself makes this quest incredibly worthwhile, the different endings also set this quest apart from others.

How to Start the Blood of Lathander Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3Baldurs Gate 3 How to Start Blood of Lathander Quest Rosymorn Monastery

In the Rosymorn Monastery, finding the ceremonial room on the second floor of the Monastery will begin the Blood of Lathander quest. From this point, the quest leads players to retrieve three ceremonial weapons from around the Monastery to place on the pedestals in the ceremonial room. This route will reward the Crest of Lathander, which is a crucial, yet optional, item that gives players the choice of how the quest ends.

Discovering Lathander’s secret chamber deep inside the Githyanki Creche in BG3 is another way that players can initiate the Blood of Lathander quest. The quest eventually leads here no matter how players start it. To find this chamber, players will need to solve a puzzle located deep in the Githyanki Creche, specifically, in a short hallway with two statues near the room where players encounter Vlaakith. In order to rotate the statue on the south side of the room, players must apply Grease to it or pass an Athletics skill check. Turning the south statue to face west and the north statue to face east will open the entrance to the secret chamber.

The next puzzle that players must solve is to navigate past several traps, which can be deactivated by attacking their power sources with ranged attacks, or by directly disabling the traps with a Trap Disarm Toolkit. After surviving the traps, progressing further is a point of no return, so players should consider saving here.

Blood of Lathander's "Bad" Ending is Pure Meme MaterialBaldurs Gate 3 Blood of Lathander Quest Bad Ending Destroy Githyanki Creche

With one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Legendary weapons now in arms reach, players potentially have two options for how to conclude the quest. The first option is to disarm the contraption holding the weapon by placing the Crest of Lathander inside the device to safely retrieve the weapon. The other option, which is much more entertaining, is to disregard the contraption and attempt to retrieve the weapon anyway. This second option will trigger the device on the roof of the Monastery to explode the Creche and surrounding Monastery, killing all the Githyanki inside, as well as the player’s party if they don’t escape to safety.

After surviving the blast, the Origin Characters will share their reactions to the Creche’s epic destruction. Surprisingly, players can persuade Lae’zel from being disappointed by explaining that it was an accident, to which she agrees. Astarion however, will revel in jealousy at the player’s murderous habits in an exchange that’s worth experiencing first-hand.

It's no secret that the Githyanki don't get along with other races in Baldur's Gate 3, so it's common for players to find themselves in a position where they can or should do something against them. Even the Githyanki Origin Character, Lae’Zel can be quite inhospitable to the other party members she chooses to surround herself with, which further fuels the flames. With all this in mind, blowing up the Githyanki Creche is the ultimate act of petty vengeance that can satisfy players in a way that few other quests will. Especially, considering that the Githyanki's demise was brought on by intrusive thoughts about stealing a cool-looking weapon, which just makes the whole thing a silly and dramatic experience.

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC and PS5 with an Xbox Series X/S version in development.
