The Whispering Mask in Baldur's Gate 3 is located in the middle of a boss battle. Usually, these types of decisions are more about role-playing, but there are very real combat consequences for wearing the mask or not, in addition to the usual role-playing outcomes.

Baldur's Gate 3 is all about player choice and often makes such decisions difficult with both positive and negative outcomes. The Whispering Mask is yet another example of this effect, and it's not clear what will happen to the characters that do decide to equip it.

Baldur's Gate 3: How To Save The Hag Victims

Players can save all the Hag's victims in Baldur's Gate 3 by sparing plenty of effort.

Updated on April 21, 2024, by Nahda Nabiilah: Upon discovering that Mayrina is at Auntie Ethel's house in Baldur's Gate 3, players can sneak past the fireplace and find a hidden basement full of the Hag's victims. You will find out about the tragedies of all the people who made a deal with the witch, including the big wooden door. The door is a victim that the Hag made, and she punishes him every time he allows someone to explore the basement further. Therefore, Tav can use the mask to pass through the door without angering the Hag and also putting the door's fragile heart at ease.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Players committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Using The Whispering Mask

Baldur's Gate 3 Whispering Mask Allowing Players To Pass Through The Door
  • Auntie Ethel's minions won't attack.
  • Players can pass through the illusory door without getting it killed.
  • Authie Ethel will frequently force the wearer to attack their party members and make other poor decisions.

While trying to save Mayrina, there are other victims available for saving as well. One such victim is the door and the mask-wearing cohorts on the other side of it. Players can not equip the mask and pass through the door but, if they do so, Auntie Ethel will kill the door.

After passing through the door, it's safe to unequip the mask without getting the door killed. On the other side, several powerful enemies in Baldur's Gate 3 under the control of their own Whispering Masks wait to ambush the player's party. If everyone wears a mask, they won't attack.

Baldur's Gate 3 Whispering Mask Forcing Party To Attack Each Other

The danger, though, is that wearing the mask frequently forces the wearer to attack their own party, even using high-level spell slots to do so. It's possible to sneak around the room without the mask if the goal is to save these souls by killing the boss. This stage will be easier or harder depending on if players decided to drink from the well or not. Regardless, after either taking out the minions or sneaking past them, there is no reason to keep the mask on anymore.
