At first, players will be helping the Myconid as an entire colony in Baldur's Gate 3. While each entity is an individual, they are in such unison that Spaw appears to speak for all the residents. Even Glut asks to help the party out when Spaw asks for the Duergar to be eliminated.

Yet halfway through helping the colony, it becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems. Glut seeks new leadership and this means Spaw must be removed. Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to freely choose between the two sides, but there is a hefty consequence for either choice.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 12 Choices To Avoid As Dark Urge

Playing as a Dark Urge character in Baldur's Gate 3 unlocks some unique choices with often dire consequences that players should avoid.

Updated on March 17, 2024, by Nahda Nabiilah: Glut and Spaw are both potential leaders of the Myconid Colony and players will eventually have to decide which is the best. Glut used to have a circle, but they all died, and the creature wishes to take over Spaw's circle by betraying the current leader. Spaw, on the other hand, wishes to live in harmony and peace, the opposite of Glut's intention. When you make a choice, keep in mind that some characters in Baldur's Gate 3 will approve or disapprove of your decision, so choose carefully.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Players committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Siding With Glut In Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 Glut Asking Player To Come Along
  • Only recommended for evil-aligned campaigns
  • Must kill Spaw and the rest of the colony
  • Ends questlines with all other colonists
  • Astarion approves, Karlach and Lae'zel disapprove

The one reason to make this choice is for the sheer evil of it. After attacking Shaw, the entire colony will turn hostile (aside from Glut, of course). This decision effectively leads to the end of the Myconid civilization in this region.

There are a few rewards for making this decision, such as the Ring of Fire and the Featherlight Boots, but nothing unique. Even these items can be bought from vendors or looted in other locations. When entering the Underdark, this is the least lucrative outcome, but it may fill an evil character's heart with joy.

Siding With Spaw In Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 Meeting Spaw In The Myconid Colony
  • Recommended for most campaigns
  • Must kill only Glut
  • Astarion disapproves, Karlach and Lae'zel approve

Some might argue that siding with Spaw yields more loot due to the secret area he reveals, but a character with Misty Step or a Potion of Invisibility will be able to get there. So, this ultimately becomes more about role-playing and questing than loot.

Those who wish to level up fast will want to side with Spaw as he continues to fight against the Duergar. He, Omeluum, Thulla, and the merchant are all handy to have around. Plus, players will get to feel they're helping the Myconids survive instead of destroying them.
