Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game that has many possible companions that the player can recruit. However, some of them might not be recruitable together, or the player might face some issues while having them on the same team.

Gale is a powerful wizard in BG3 whom the player should make full use of.

One such issue the player faces is when attempting to recruit both Wyll and Karlach, which will lead to problems with Wyll’s patron, Mizora. Here’s how to get around that.

Where To Find Karlach

To find Karlach, the player will have to head north from the Blighted Village until they reach a broken bridge. They will have to jump across to the other side of it. From the broken bridge, the player has to go to the right and continue directly, however, there will be some dangerous hyenas on the way there. The player should kill them before they start attacking them and stop them from getting reinforcements. If the players do this right, they can go on without having sustained any damage.

Continuing down the road, the player will find Karlach, on the other side of a log. The player shouldn’t get too close to her as that will cause a dialogue with her to start, which should be avoided for what’s to come.

How To Recruit Karlach Without Wyll Becoming A Devil

An issue with recruiting both Karlach and Wyll is that the latter will be turned into a Devil by his patron, Mizora. This doesn't affect the game much, other than maybe making him unattractive to some players. But, for players who don’t want to deal with Devil Wyll and also want to have Karlach in their party, there’s a way to do just that, but it does need some steps to work.

Step 1 - Killing Karlach

The first step to completing this is to kill Karlach. One catch is that the first strike should be made from a distance, so that the dialogue with her doesn’t start as it will ruin everything.

Karlach has 32 hit points, which shouldn’t be too hard for the player to take down. Once she’s dead, the player shouldn’t touch her body, and instead, move to the second step.

Step 2 - Returning to the Camp

After killing Karlach, the player needs to go back to their camp. There, Wyll will be waiting with an exclamation point. Talk to him. He will be uncertain about his decision to get Karlach killed.

This conversation with him will trigger Mizora to come the next time the player takes a long rest. The player shouldn’t take a long rest just yet, as there’s more to do before wanting Mizora to come.

Step 3 - Use The Scroll of Revivify On Karlach

To complete this, the player must have in their inventory a very essential item - the scroll of revivify. If the player doesn’t have one, they should look for one before even attempting all of this.

Here's how the player can make sure they're on good terms with their companions in BG3.

With the scroll of revivify, the player can make Karlach rise once again. However, do not talk to her just yet, as now is the time to confront Wyll’s Patron, Mizora.

Step 4 - Speaking With Mizora

The player must go back to camp now once again. When there, the player should take a long rest. This will trigger Mizora to visit Wyll at night. She will be satisfied with Wyll for having eliminated Karlach, despite her being alive and well.

Instead of being punished, he will instead be rewarded. His reward will be the Infernal Robe. This robe will provide an extra +1 to armor class and also grants the wearer fire damage resistance. After Mizora leaves and the player gets a night’s rest, it’s time to recruit Karlach.

Step 5 - Recruiting Karlach

Now that everything is done and Mizora can’t come back to punish Wyll, all that the player has to do is leave their camp and speak with Karlach. They should just recruit her normally. Once that is done, Karlach will join the player’s camp. When taking a long rest, however, Karlach and Wyll will still have a confrontation, but nothing more than that.

Karlach is officially a member of the player’s team, and Wyll is still a human.

Pros and Cons Of Doing This

Baldur's Gate 3: Mizora

While this technique to recruit Karlach and leave Wyll a normal human is tempting, does it have effects on the gameplay overall?

Pros

The player, by doing this, will be able to keep Wyll as a human while having Karlach in their team. On top of that, the player receives the Infernal Robe, which is typically impossible to get while having Karlach.

Cons

None that can be seen throughout the game, besides perhaps losing one Scroll Of Revivify.

Overall this technique is definitely worth it and will not cause any issues for the player.
