Upon meeting with General Ketheric Thorm during Act 2, players can finally explore Moonrise Towers to their heart’s content in Baldur’s Gate 3. Weirdly enough, you will eventually stumble upon a dark hidden secret found beneath Moonrise Towers, which is an area called the Oubliette.

However, upon entering the area, players will notice that it’s only possible to explore one side of the Oubliette while the other side seems inaccessible. The truth is that you need to progress in the main quest in Act 2 to reach that side, which is the Mind Flayer Colony.

How To Reach The Other Side Of Oubliette In Baldur’s Gate 3

To reach the other side of Oubliette, you need to defeat General Ketheric Thorm in Act 2. With the help of your chosen party and Aylin, if you decide to save her, attack Ketheric Thorm until his health decreases dramatically. Suddenly, a tentacle will appear and interrupt the fight, as well as reveal a hidden path to the other side of Oubliette, which is called the Mind Flayer Colony.

Speak with Jaheira, who will be standing in front of a destroyed tower, which is the Colony’s entrance, and invite her to join the party in Baldur’s Gate 3 if desired. Next, interact with the entrance to witness a small cutscene and start exploring the Mind Flayer Colony.

What To Do In The Mind Flayer Colony In Baldur’s Gate 3

There are various side quests where players can progress inside the Mind Flayer Colony. The main quest is to explore the Colony and find Ketheric Thorm to defeat him again, but for good this time. Doing so will make you complete a step in both the Lift the Shadow Curse quest and the Defeat Ketheric Thorm quest.

As for side quests, releasing the ones inside the pods at the Tadpoling Center will allow you to advance in the Find Zevlor quest. The following area has another pod that contains Mizora. Releasing her will complete a step in Blades of Frontiers' quest.

Upon heading to the Necrotic Laboratory, players can find Mol’s Eyepatch (Find Mol quest) near Balthazar's stuff alongside some Brain Jars in Baldur’s Gate 3. Additionally, there is a Brain puzzle inside the Laboratory, and solving it will unlock a door that’s hiding many treasures, like Blade of Oppressed Souls, the Braindrain Gloves, and the Circlet of Mental Anguish. The secret to solving the brain puzzle is connecting all four nodes (Emotion, Speech, Memory, and Reason) to their respective brains.

There are many other things players can do inside the Mind Flayer Colony, so make sure to explore thoroughly before heading off to General Ketheric Thorm. That’s because, after defeating the boss, it’s impossible to return to the Colony as you and your party must set a path to Baldur’s Gate, which is the beginning of Act 3.
