Throughout Baldur's Gate 3, the party has had to camp outside in whatever conditions they find: seaside cliffs, Underdark caverns, shadow-cursed wastelands, abandoned farms, and so on. The game has no hard limit on the number of long rests the party can perform, but players must spend 40 Camp Supplies for each one.

However, the terrible conditions and limited supplies can change once players reach Baldur's Gate itself. The city has amenities to spare for weary travelers like the party, and one way to get them is to buy out the upper floor of the Elfsong Tavern. Not only is this much nicer than camping in an abandoned section of the docks, the tavern also comes with a way to restock Camp Supplies every night, a first in Baldur's Gate 3. Here's how players can acquire lodgings.

How to Get a Room

Baldurs Gate 3 Elfsong Room Barkeep

Elfsong Tavern is straight ahead (west) from Basilisk Gate, which is where players will enter Baldur's Gate. Players can't miss it, since the Emperor will ask the party to get some lost gear of his from the cellar. Getting this gear involves going to the stairs in the kitchen and dealing with a rat infestation, but doing so has nothing to do with getting a room.

Instead, players seeking accomodations should head over to the bar at the back end of the common room. The barkeep, Alan Alyth, will greet the party, and players can ask him for a place to stay. He's only too happy to provide the entire upper floor for just 200 gold, since one of the Bhaal murders happened in the Elfsong.

In fact, players can get a discount from Alan if they like. Persuasion and Perception both work, and a conditional Intimidation check may also be available. These checks are somewhat difficult, but players who pass them can get the rooms for free "until this killer thing blows over." This translates to the rest of Act 3.

What the Elfsong Room Provides

Baldurs Gate 3 Elfsong Room Dumbwaiter

The biggest benefit of renting the Elfsong upper floor is the fact that the party can now sleep in real beds indoors. This has no mechanical benefit, but the room also comes with a couple extra perks.

First, players can find a dumbwaiter to the right of the entrance. At night, players can interact with the dumbwaiter to order a Supply Pack of 40 Camp Supplies for 64 gold. Players can also use any other Camp Supplies they've gathered throughout the rest of the game, but this feature means the party will never have to sleep on an empty stomach so long as they can scrape together a little gold.

The Elfsong room also fully replaces the campsite while players are in Baldur's Gate. The party can enter the rooms through a door on the second floor, but the buttons "Go to Camp" and "End the Day" will automatically warp the party to the room instead of the abandoned dock area that the party would otherwise use while in the city.

Like other campsites, the Elfsong room also has a few items players can grab and containers to check. In particular, the chest next to Withers and the dumbwaiter has several valuable ingots inside. Finally, the Traveler's Chest with the party's gear and the beds used for long rests are to the left of the entrance.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on macOS and PC, and is coming to PS5 on September 6, 2023.
