Many of the most memorable moments in Dungeons and Dragons, the tabletop RPG that inspired Baldur's Gate 3, occur inside a burning building. Combat and skills are already intense but with an added time limit and the environment collapsing all around the party, these are moments players don't forget.
Baldur's Gate 3 embraces this situation with a burning building and two poor souls stuck inside. If players aren't quick, not only can the two people stuck inside die but the player and the party can die as well. For this reason, gamers will need to execute a very careful plan to rescue both of the victims.
This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.
Saving Counsellor Florrick
- Cast the Misty Step spell to get to Counsellor Florrick.
- Speak to Counsellor Florrick.
- Destroy the Shatter Wine Barrel with spells.
The biggest trick here is that the Shattered Wine Barrel, as of this writing, can only be destroyed with spells. It is immune to ranged and melee physical attacks. It does not need to be the character who saves Counsellor Florrick that destroys the barrel, it can be destroyed from safety outside by any caster in the party. Change party members and use anybody that has Misty Step to make this rescue.
Saving Benryn
- Cast the Misty Step spell to get to Benryn.
- Save Benryn with either Strength or Investigation check.
- Cast Create Water on Benryn.
- Allow Benryn to open the door himself (do not open the door to get to him).
It's almost impossible to save Benryn but it is doable. Gamers will notice that opening the door creates an explosion and the fire then begins to spread immediately. As of this writing, this explosion only occurs if a player-controller party member opens the door.
Benryn can survive the flames on his own if he gets a bit lucky but casting Create Water on Benryn as he starts running will half the fire damage he takes and guarantee his survival. When playing with friends, casters come in clutch in this particular event.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC and will be available on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
