In Baldur's Gate 3, healing is one of the most important mechanics in the game, with this function being responsible for keeping your characters alive and well not only through combat but also between Short and Long Rests.

Among the endless items that can be discovered and obtained in Baldur's Gate 3, the Amulet of Restoration is one of the strongest healing items that can add extra utility to a character by buffing them with healing capabilities or further enhancing them in situations where they are already maintaining this role within your party. For this reason, knowing where and how to secure the Amulet of Restoration can provide many benefits for your playthrough.

Once you have successfully arrived in the Underdark, you will now need to locate the Myconid Colony and visit their camp, where a merchant named Derryth Bonecloak can be found.

When you're done discussing the possibility of helping Derryth with this personal matter, you can also ask to see her wares. This will open the merchant trading menu, where the Amulet of Restoration can be purchased for 276 Gold.

Amulet of Restoration Spells & Buffs

  • Healing Word (Once per Long Rest): Heal a creature you can see for +1d4 + WIS/CHA Modifier.
  • Mass Healing Word (Once per Long Rest): Heal up to 6 allies for +1d4 + WIS/CHA Modifier.

There are multiple ways in which the Amulet of Restoration can be used to enhance builds. Firstly, it can be used as additional healing for your main healer, which will, in most cases, be Shadowheart. Having an extra cast of Healing Word and Mass Healing Word can come in handy and save a couple of Spell Slots, meaning she gets very solid use out of this item.

Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get Killer's Sweetheart Ring

In Baldur's Gate 3, the Killer's Sweetheart ring can provide a huge asset to many different builds.

However, while this is a fine use, the Amulet of Restoration can also enhance certain Multiclass builds and establish new possibilities with the strong utilities it provides. A perfect example happens to be a Paladin/Cleric multiclass. This may sound strange at first, but with the Amulet of Restoration, this build operates not only as a melee tank but also as a strong utility character that can pivot between dishing out hefty damage and supporting the party when the fight gets tough. With such a combination, this is a character that can carry through certain stages of the game while also being a fun Tav to try out.

  • The Paladin/Cleric Multiclass focuses on the CHA stat, followed by WIS and STR. CHA will enable Paladin Spells to deal even more damage, making your Smites even more deadly. STR is responsible for your weapon (usually a one-handed sword), and WIS is for your Cleric utility Spells. Lastly, you should wear Heavy Armor and take a Shield in your second hand, as this will ensure your character has a high AC - this will be needed as CON has been somewhat neglected. Plus, it ensures your character is set up to tank incoming hits, operating as the perfect frontline damage dealer + healer combo.
  • Smites will be your main source of damage and are usually best used at the beginning of the fight, to get some damage in before needing to pivot into supporting your team. However, you will need to keep an eye on your split of Spell Slots and ensure you have some left for healing if needed.
  • In addition to having Smites, Paladins will also get Lay on Hands, which is capable of some very substantial bursts of healing. Importantly, this doesn't take up a Spell Slot, and neither do the Spells from the Amulet of Restoration, meaning you have quite significant heal utility before even looking at your Spells.
  • With the Cleric side of the build, there is a lot of versatility. Taking Spells such as Cure Wounds and Mass Healing Word provides you with backup healing, which will likely be needed if you are the core healer. Spiritual Weapon places a weapon on the battlefield, enabling you to pivot to healing while also getting some damage in per turn. Spirit Guardians enable you to run across the battlefield and dish out AOE damage, all whilst providing healing to your team. And in really, really tough moments, you can just cast Sanctuary and then go full heal mode for your party without being targeted by damage.
  • Keeping these in mind, this build is largely adaptable to most situations, and that is partially due to the Amulet of Restoration. With the extra healing utility taking pressure away from your valuable Spell Slots, you can focus more on big Smites, dealing two of them per turn to quickly dish out chunks of damage in a single turn. Then, once you've made a chip in your target, buff your teammates through heals and utility, and they should be able to make short work of the rest.

This is just one example of many different ways in which an item such as the Amulet of Restoration can change the value of a certain build or skill combination, creating something new and entertaining to try out in a second run.
