  • The Harpies fight at the Secluded Cove and the fight with Ethel the Hag can be skipped by avoiding certain locations or making friends instead of enemies.

Baldur's Gate 3 has several tough boss fights, but for those players who want to avoid combat or take fewer chances in their Honour Mode run, some of them are easy to miss. Fans can either avoid them entirely, use Stealth or pickpocketing skills instead of force, or pass a series of dice rolls to talk their way out of it.

Baldur's Gate 3: All Orin's Murder Effigies Explained

Orin the Red's grisly artistic murder effigies in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 reference iconic enemies from Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal.

Whatever path players decide to take through Baldur's Gate 3 will be filled with a variety of colorful and interesting characters, both friend and foe. How they deal with them is ultimately a matter of dice rolls, but some of the hardest fights are also the easiest to miss.

1 Grym, Guardian Of The Forge

Not Everyone Is Interested In Adamantine Gear

Various clues are scattered around Act 1, especially in the Underdark, regarding the location of the Adamantine Forge. Players can find details regarding how to make it work and the existence of Grym, its massive metal guardian. However, this is an entirely optional quest that isn't directly connected to the main storyline, and it's possible to miss these or ignore the Forge entirely.

Once players know where the Forge is and how to use it, they still need to find the molds and materials. The weapons and armor they can craft are for fighting classes and characters that can wear heavy or medium armor. Depending on how fans have customized their characters, they might not be interested in the Forge or Grym, so this is an easy fight to miss.

2 Lump The Enlightened

Hire Him, And Keep Paying Him, Or He Dies Fighting

Certain characters might be morally compelled to attack the Ogres, but if fans are playing a more nuanced game, it's possible to miss this fight entirely. Talk to the Ogre and either make peace with him as another follower of the Absolute or hire him as a mercenary to help with the Act 1 fights.

Baldur's Gate 3: Most Important Deaths, Ranked

Death is sure to follow players in Baldur's Gate 3, but which of them is the most important to look out for?

The latter option only works if players have the gold to pay him, but they can also pass some tough Charisma and Deception checks to defer the payment or compensate him by letting him eat the flesh of the dead after a fight. Even better, if Lump and his brothers die during a battle, fans can loot their money back from him and don't have to pay him again along with the guarantee of missing a tough fight.

3 The Harpies

An Optional And Challenging Early Fight

Many players don't even find this place until they explore the outer reaches of the Druid Grove, and many never do, making this fight an easy one to miss. For those who want access to Mol's underground thieving network, however, it's best to visit the beach to defeat the Harpies and save one of her wayward employees.

The name of this location is the Secluded Cove, and Mirkon is the Tiefling child players have to save if they want to make friends with Mol. This fight is much tougher than it looks because the Harpies have a Luring Song that can stun the characters or make them run toward their waiting claws, including Mirkon. If fans aren't keen on making friends with the Teifling thieves, however, they can avoid the shoreline and skip this fight entirely.

4 Ethel The Hag

Make Friends Not Enemies

The Hag is one of those NPCs that can be a friend or enemy, depending on how fans want to play the game. Some characters won't be able to avoid fighting the Hag because she's an evil entity and most good characters will eventually confront her.

Baldur's Gate 3: Hardest Bosses In The Game

Baldur's Gate 3 has some scarily challenging boss fights. For these threats, players should be prepared and have their tactics honed.

On the other hand, it's easy to miss this fight in various ways. Auntie Ethel's abode, the Riverside Teahouse, is in the heart of the Sunlit Swamp. This area is optional and players can skip it if they want, which is one way to miss the fight. If players visit her to fix their eye, she'll stay friendly, and even join them in the final battle against the Elder Brain.

5 The Goblin Camp

Use Poison Instead Of Open Fighting, Or Join Them

How to Poison the Goblin Camp in Baldur’s Gate 3

The goblin leaders are a challenge to kill, and once they die, the settlement becomes hostile. That includes everyone in the Shattered Sanctum and the Goblin Camp, and with everyone piling on, this can be a tough fight even if players have Lump and his brothers helping.

Joining the Goblins and helping them destroy the Grove is one way to avoid this fight, but there's another way that fans can save the Druid Grove without fighting the Goblins. The Goblins are drinking from a Booze Tub by the campfire, and as long as players have some kind of poison in their inventory, they can pour it into their communal drink.

This leads to several cutscenes and tough dice rolls, but if fans pass them, they can kill most of the Goblins without a fight. Fail any, however, and players will still have to fight all of them.

6 Anders, Paladin Of Tyr

Avoid The Toll House Or Kill Karlach

Baldur's Gate 3 Karlach Or Anders Collage

This fight takes most players by surprise because they don't know about Paladins yet, such as their prowess with two-handed weapons, and special skills that give them extra attacks along with initiative bonuses. Anders can beat players down with his sword before they even get a turn.

There are alternatives to fighting Anders, but none are pretty. Players can avoid this fight by never going to the Tollhouse. If they recruit Wyll and follow through on Mizora's request to kill Karlach, players never have to deal with Anders.

Fans can also take the quest from Anders to kill Karlach. Most players would prefer to take the chance and fight Anders rather than harm everyone's favorite Barbarian companion.
