The Human race is worth trying out in Baldur's Gate 3. Here's how players can get the best out of it.

The Half-Elf race is one of the most popular races in Baldur’s Gate 3, and for good reasons. Often, players might wonder as to what the best build surrounding this race is, and that's exactly what'll be discussed in this guide.

Overview

Baldur's Gate 3 High Half-Elf Wizard In Character Creation

While the Half-Elf is similar to the Elf, there are some important differences. The Half-Elf showcases these features:

  • Base Racial Speed, being able to move 9 meters each turn.
  • Civil Militia, gives access to proficiency with spears, pikes, halberds, and glaives. Additionally, they get Light Armor and Shields proficiency.
  • Dark Vision, can see in the dark up to 12 meters.
  • Fey Ancestry, harder to charm and can’t be put to sleep.

When it comes to subraces, the Half-Elf has 3, notably:

  • The High Half-Elf: They get access to a cantrip of their choice - the modifier being intelligence.
  • The Wood Half-Elf: They have Fleet of Foot and Stealth proficiency.
  • The Drow Half-Elf: has the cantrip Dancing Lights.

Best High Half-Elf and Drow Half-Elf Build

The High Half-Elf works best as a Wizard. That is because the Wizard’s primary ability is intelligence, which will work perfectly with the High Half-Elf’s cantrip, based on intelligence. This build also works great with the Drow Half-Elf.

The best Wizard subclass would be that of the Enchantment school, which allows the character to be a support on the battlefield, but also a heavy hitter when needed.

Thanks to Civil Militia, these wizards will have some protection with shields and light armor.

In this case, the best background would be the Sage. The player might want to give them the Perception proficiency, as they lack that, unlike their Elf parents.

Best Wood Half-Elf Build

Just like their Wood Elf parents, the Wood Half-Elf works incredibly well as a Rogue, thanks to their Stealth proficiency, letting them sneak anywhere unnoticed. It will also allow them to use many more weapons, such as hand crossbows, long swords, rapiers, and short swords.

The best subclass is Thief, for their extra bonus action and the possibility to eventually get Supreme Sneak.

With that, the best background for the Wood Half-Elf are:

  • Charlatan
  • Criminal
  • Urchin

Just like for the High Half-Elf and Drow Half-Elf, the player should give them the Perception proficiency.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
