Baldur's Gate 3: All Romanceable Characters

There are a total of ten romance options in Baldur's Gate 3, and each of them are unique companions that players can choose to get close to.

The following characters, unfortunately, cannot be romanced in Baldur's Gate 3, and many players might have even saved their lives or made choices with the hopes of romancing them, only to be disappointed.

Updated February 6, 2024 by Joe Grantham: Game of the Year winner Baldur's Gate 3 is a colossal RPG with hundreds of characters, all of whom have unique voices and personalities. With such variety, it is only natural that different players would have wanted certain characters to be romanceable.

With that in mind, this list has been updated to include even more of Faerun's most enticing charmers. Act 3 in particular, taking place in the city, has a magnitude of characters with plenty of viable partners among their number.

1 Prince Orpheus

A Trapped Prince Grateful To Be Freed

Orpheus locked in the Astral Prism in Baldur's Gate 3

Seeing as players can romance the Emperor in Baldur's Gate 3 after choosing to side with him, it is a shame that players who instead decide to free Prince Orpheus don't have their own romance option. Prince Orpheus is supposedly the true Ruler of the Githyanki, but as players discover during the game, he has been trapped in the Astral Plane.

Players who choose to free him will find the prince to be accusative at first, and defensive, but as he comes to understand his liberation, he becomes more regal and decisive. For those playing as Lae'zel, there is a connection between the two githyanki, and once all is said and done, it feels like there should be a way to celebrate victory over the Netherbrain with the Prince in a more intimate way.

2 Orin The Red

An Oddly Appealing Villain

Despite her passion for blood and murder, there is no denying there is something about Orin that makes the mind wonder. However, for those who are curious about what the Deathbringer of Bhaal would be like as a lover, for better or worse, Orin is not romanceable in Baldur's Gate 3.

In a game with near-unlimited options for how the story can pan out, this is a tad unfortunate, especially for players embarking on a dark playthrough. Orin's ability to shapeshift would have made her a very interesting partner, although some would agree that her natural form is oddly the most appealing.

3 True Soul Nere

An Imposing Drow

Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3

One character whom many players wish they could have simply seen more of, never mind romance, is True Soul Nere, an attractive and imposing drow, found at the end of Act 1. For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Nere, he must first be freed in the Grymforge.

Baldur's Gate 3: 8 Tips For Beating The Game On Tactician Difficulty

Tactician Mode is the hardest difficulty Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer. Here's how players can emerge victorious.

Just as Minthara is one of the most popular romance options, Nere as a fellow Lolth-sworn drow would have satisfied those seeking male companionship instead. Thankfully, players with a particular fondness for drows will find a pair of them at Sharess' Caress in Act 3 of the game.

4 Raphael

A Smooth-Talking Fiend Who Emanates Desire

Baldur's Gate 3 Raphael

The smooth-talking part devil Raphael is one of the best non-origin characters in Baldur's Gate 3, but despite his alluring looks both in his normal form and when disguised as a human, Raphael sadly cannot be romanced. This is fairly disappointing for some players especially if they know that Mizora can be romanced, with the two sharing similarities.

Thankfully, however, if players enter Avernus in Act 3, then during the Free Orpheus and Deal With The Devil quests, they will have an opportunity for a saucy encounter with an incubus called Haarlep, who has taken on the guise of Raphael.

5 Isobel

A Beautiful Cleric With A Kind Heart

Should You Kill Isobel In Baldur’s Gate 3? (Dark Urge)

At the start of Act 2 in Baldur's Gate 3, players will be instructed to go and receive a blessing from a Cleric of Selune who will protect them against the Shadow Curse. That Cleric is Isobel, found in one of the upper rooms at the Last Light Inn, and players cannot be blamed for falling for her instantly.

However, not only can Isobel unfortunately not be romanced, but it is also difficult to keep her alive or even just keep her safe, as the Inn will get attacked when players first talk to her. Thankfully, if players can save her and Dame Aylin later on, they can both be recruited to camp, although not as companions.

6 Dammon

A Helpful Tiefling With A Smouldering Gaze

A close up of Dammon in Baldur's Gate 3

Dammon the Infernal Mechanic and merchant can be found in every Act of BG3 and is a charming, but reserved Tiefling with a warm heart and a skill for fixing hearts that are a little too warm. However, Dammon cannot be romanced, not even by a grateful Karlach after he mends her infernal heart.

Each class in Baldur's Gate 3 is unique in one way or another. However, some great classes are often overlooked in favor of other, more obvious ones.

While it is not too surprising given that Dammon does not play a massive part in the game, his devilishly handsome looks and his eyes in particular certainly leave some players wishing for more.

7 Alfira

A Charismatic Bard In Need Of Help

bg3 bard alfira tiefling

Alfira is a Tiefling Bard whom players will first come across in the Emerald Grove, and while players can help Alfira finish her song, many likely wish they could romance her too. Not only is Alfira beautiful and a talented musician, but she is also very charismatic and lovable.

In fact, many players were surprised that she was not a main companion, especially as there was no other Bard companion to be recruited. Alfira can be found again in Act 2, although each interaction will likely leave players wishing they could romance her or at least try.

8 He Who Was

One Of The Hottest Characters In The Game

Baldur's Gate 3 He Who Was

He Who Was is easily one of the hottest characters in Baldur's Gate 3, who players can find in the Ruined Battlefield part of the Shadow Cursed Lands. Unfortunately, any players who set their eyes on him as a potential partner will be disappointed, as not only is his role in the game short but he also can't be romanced.

Seeing as there are a few other characters who can take part in one night of fun, it wouldn't have been impossible for He Who Was to be an option, and this seems like a missed opportunity.

9 Dame Aylin

A Fiesty Soul In Stunning Armor

Baldur's Gate 3 Lorroakan Boss Fight Dame Aylin Nightsong

Dame Aylin, whom players will first hear about as the Nightsong, is a nearly immortal daughter of Selune and players can rescue her towards the end of Act 2. If they choose to save her life and manage to defeat Ketheric Thorm, she can then become a camp follower with players able to engage in dialogue with her and receive one of the best spears in Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best Characters To Romance, Ranked

every romance option in Baldur's Gate 3 offers unique stories and companion quests that can further the journey and emotional growth of the game.

However, no matter how great of a warrior she is with her beautiful armor and wings, and no matter her natural beauty and outstanding desire to fight for justice, Dame Aylin cannot be romanced. She also can't be recruited properly as a companion, although she will join in combat at various points.

10 Disciple Z'rell

A Half-Orc Who Flirts With The Main Character

Baldur's Gate 3 Disciple Z'rell

For players who go down the darkest of paths in Baldur's Gate 3, there aren't as many characters that can be romanced, with honorable individuals such as Wyll and Jaheira forswearing evil. For this reason, it would have been great for Disciple Z'rell to have been romanceable, especially given the fact that she can already flirt and there are no other Half-Orcs to be romanced.

Disciple Z'rell is first encountered in Moonrise Towers where she is a high-ranking adviser to Ketheric Thorm, the main boss of Act 2. For players looking for something a little different in their BG3 romance, she could certainly have delivered, and it would have been interesting for players to connect with her as part of their evil playthrough.
