Spells are an important mechanic present in the Baldur’s Gate 3 world. They can be used to deal damage, heal, or cast other magical effects. Based on the character’s class and sometimes race, the spellcasting ability is decided. Typically, it is one of these three: Charisma, Wisdom, or Intelligence.

The very best classes for spellcasting are really the Wizard and the Sorcerer, however, most other classes can make use of spells nevertheless.

The player has the option to change their character’s spells, and here is how to achieve this:

Leveling Up

The most obvious option the player has under their belt to change their character’s spells is to wait for leveling up. This is valid for all classes that can spellcast. This is especially easy to achieve early on as leveling up shouldn’t be too hard.

However, as the player advances, leveling up will take up more time and it won’t be a great option. Some classes do not have a choice and must just wait for leveling up, notably, Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Ranger, Eldritch Knight, and Arcane Trickster.

Prepare And Change The Spells

Some classes are more lucky when it comes to changing spells. If desired, they can simply wait until their next level up, however, that’s not a must. The classes of Wizard, Cleric, Paladin, and Druid can prepare and change their spells outside of combat.

To do this, the player can choose the character that belongs to one of those classes and head over to Spellbook. This will open the menu to prepare and manage their spells.

When inside this menu, press on Prepare Spells. Here, the player will have the option to take out already equipped spells and choose new ones.

With this, the characters are ready for their next battle with the spells they will need. This allows for more customization based on what enemy the player is facing and makes it less stressful to pick spells during level-ups.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
